A few months ago I purchased a custom card box and flower girl basket from Etsy seller sheachicdesigns. I was told I would receive them this month but it looks like she filed for bankruptcy and closed down shop. Has anyone else bought items from her recently and actually received them or a refund? I emailed her and got an autoreply about filing bankruptcy (she says she’ll post about making refunds…where?? she closed down her page for crying out loud!), filed a report with Etsy and luckily I paid via PayPal so I submitted a claim about this. I just have a feeling I got screwed.
Anyone else have a situation similar to this? My wedding is next month. Now I’m worried about buying off Etsy (though I’ve bought from other sellers before that and all went well) and I don’t want to DIY them… grrr!

If you paid with PayPal and you filed a dispute, you will get your money back. I have been a PayPal user for a long time and I deal with PayPal payments and disputes at work. PayPal will send this seller a dispute and they will have to prove that they provided a good or service to you. If they dont provide proof or ignore the claim from PayPal, PayPal will reimburse your money. It’s a pain in the ass and you may have to wait a few weeks but you will get your money back.

Paypal actually has a 45 day limit to disputing, outside that it’s not guaranteed :/

Thanks for the advice, girls! Stephanie, I only have the email that is/was associated with her business. I believe Etsy will only act as a mediator between parties to help reach a resolution but it doesn’t seem like they can make her do anything. CaitMarae, thanks for the glimmer of hope! I’m glad I have PayPal on my side; I hope they will help me like they’ve helped you!

I was in this situation with an Etsy seller recently too. I noticed that her reviews started getting bad, then she went on “leave,” and eventually closed her shop. I first tried to contact her via email, but with no response and with the way things were looking, I decided to try and get my money back. I filed disputes through Etsy and Paypal and got all my money back. I was within the 45 day window and everything was resolved quickly.
I would suggest not ordering anything at this point given that your wedding is so close. Like a PP said, just go to Michaels and get to DIY with your card box and basket!

I’ve dealt with disputes where the original transaction date was older than 45 days so they apparently do make exceptions. I’m not sure whats required to get the ball rolling on that (probably contacting someone at PayPal personally) but it can be done if you are outside the 45 day window.
