cb450k7:  We have a day of coordinator, she is an event planner for a college where we are from and has started doing weddings on the side. We heard about her from a friends wedding we attended and had no idea she was a wedding planner full time. She was amazing, so we met with her and she is charging us $500, she has been amazing! She will do what yours is essentially and so far has helped us save a lot by her negoating skills. We are at a 15k budget but we got lucky as I work in the food and beverage industry so I got a lot of amazing deals because of that.

Get everything in writing. Our coordinator tried to bait and switch so may things last minute that really was beyond unprofessional and breaking her contract.

good luck with the planning and the planner …. my only advice is be aware that for many venues they will not let you use friends as vendors as they will have a specific list of approved people. This is especially true for food –  most catering places would not let you have someone outside bring in any food (even another pro) since it could be a liability for them (ie someone gets sick cause it wasn’t in the fridge and they sue your caterer for serving it) so if those things are important to you make sure that you get that all cleared up and in writing before you sign the contract…..

we even spoke to one florist who said she wouldn’t work with us cause my aunt (who was also a florist) was going to source some items for our ceremony and she said its either all her or not her at all cause it would affect her “vision” and she was afraid that if things didn’t look the way she would hae liked it could affect her reputation (eye roll… ugh) so in the end we went with someone else who would allow that gift from my aunt to be used

We hired a day-of coordinator. Best decision ever. She kept my fed and a drink in my hand all night. Kept the reception moving too. The only thing I got upset about was that she let me walk about before my music started so I walked down the aisle in silence. A lot of my guests thought it was intentional though!! LOL
