I always said I wanted a slim line dress that had a lot of lace, little to no bling, had capped sleeves and I did NOT want to have to wear a hoop. I ended up with a satin trumpet dress with a large band of swarovski crystals at the waist, a size 1 hoop and halter straps!

I wasnt too fussy when it came to pulling dresses, my one and only no no was a strapless dress with pickups. Everyone I know has had a dress like that and I really wanted to look like me, not like every other bride out there.

@fvsoccer: Really? Why would you even start such a negative thread? To talk about things you hate? That is just so lame…

Shame on all of you who took the time to respond about things you hate about dresses. Why waste your time being negative? I just dont get it.

@organicgal: Thanks for dropping in and scolding, that seems much more productive and WAY less negative ๐Ÿ™‚

    On me, I didn’t like dresses (with)…

    1) Cross-over ruching(?) across the boobs… I felt like a mummy!

    2) Empire waistline… did nothing for my hips!

    3) Super poofy ballgowns… I remember cutting out the crinoline of my prom dresses ๐Ÿ˜‰

I did, however, LOVE my dress with a corset back (except it was hard to sneeze and eat dinner in!) AND pick-ups. Seriously, don’t give a damn what others like. I felt gorgeous all day and my husband teared up/got lip quivers when we met eyes. I think how you feel in your dress will make it what it is. ๐Ÿ™‚

@norwegianbride: YES!!! I hate those more than anything!!

    My list would be:

    1. Uniform pickups. Pickups are okay, but within REASON. A few here and there for design’s sake. Not the whole *&^% skirt!!

    2. Color on dresses. Not to say that I don’t love me a blush colored dress. But the ones with colored accents? Blech!

    3. Bling. A little here and there is okay, but when your whole top shimmers, that is way tooooo much for me. Also the beading that was popular a couple years ago, that people continue to think looks nice. It looked bad then, it looks bad now.

    4. Any of the really “shiny” fabrics. They look okay in person, maybe in professional photos, but in people’s pictures they look cheap. End of story.

    5. “Clingy” bridesmaids fabrics. I was in a wedding last month where I was forced to wear gold matte satin. Not nice gold, sort of mustard vomit gold. Let me tell you, that dress clung to me like it’s life depended on it. All the weight I lost to be in that wedding? Couldn’t tell at all. I looked like a giant mustard colored elephant.

Man, I thought I was the only one out there that doesn’t like ruching, pickups, and corseted backs.  I don’t like major beading either.  I’ve always been a simple beauty type of gal.

@organicgal: you seem to be the only one bothered by it. Personally, i think this helps brides decide what does and doesnt work for them. sorry, but this isnt candy land where everyone loves everything. I find this to be an interesting post where brides can express their likes and dislikes to other brides who are going through the same choices and decisions. I dont know about you guys, but I need every chance I can get to relieve some stress! ๐Ÿ™‚

I dislike the see thru corset tops of some dresses ex. Pnina.  I see it as trying way too hard at the attempt of being sexy.

I hate corset backs, they look like lingerie.

It’s not that I hate them, I’m just so immune to seeing strapless dresses.  It seems like everyone gets them now days.  When I see a dress with sleeves (even if it’s see through lace) I’m automatically drawn to it because it’s refreshingly different.

I just realized that I have a lot.  Pickups, most mermaid dresses on most people (especially the ones with a lot of ruching that make people look like mummies), lots of bling, one-shoulder, ruffles and “shredded paper” bottoms, and all-satin dresses that remind me of prom dresses.

I will say that I’ve seen some people look great in these types of dresses.  I figure if it is flattering on you, go for it.
