So we got a personalized painted glass brick as a wedding gift from a step-relative of my husbands. It is cute, but not really our taste. This isn’t the first ‘off of the registry’ gift we’ve been given, and we have used, or tried to make use and be thankful of each gift we were given. Now, here is the main problem with this gift, my first name is spelt incorrectly. To be polite I put it on top of a tall bookcase in our dinning room. (My hisband wanted to throw it the minute it entered our house).
Fast forward 10 months. We are in the process of buying our first home, and my husband is hell bent on perging the house of all things we do not want or need. And the silly brick was brought up, very quickly. As someone who is artsy and creative, I would feel a bit offended if someone so quickly disposed of my work (I really didn’t intend on keeping the brick forever, but 10 months is a bit short). It is very unlikely that these people would ever visit our home, so that is not really my concern.
Did any of you married bees toss any wedding gifts that were truly wrong for you? After how long? Did you feel bad about it?
Should I just give the okay to perge it from our lives?

@auggiefrog: What about putting it in the garden? Out the house but still around.

@Treejewel19: That was my first thought! And if you really don’t like it, and the plants get a little overgrown, well, oops, you didn’t realize:)

@auggiefrog: I mean the person who made it couldn’t even be bothered to spell your name correctly! I’m with your husband.

YOu’re this worried about hanging on to some arts-and-crafts summer camp like project where they didn’t even spell your name correctly? Toss it!

Who gives someone a brick as a wedding gift?
I understand it’s supposed to be some sort of decorative keepsake but it’s still a brick. With your name misspelled. From someone you’re not even that close to.
Toss it. 🙂

Normally I’m cool with donating pretty much anything I don’t want, but it’s tricky since it’s personalized. HOWEVER, I’d be annoyed if they spelled my name wrong. I say throw it out.

I vote for outside too. I hate throwing away things people give me. I got a really PINK and flowery comforter )off registry gift) that will never go on my bed. I just store it in my dd’s closet. She loves pink and may like that one day so I am hanging on to it. If she doesn’t like it either, I will donate it.
