My mom called her mom .. “Mother” and she was “Nanny” to us kids. My mom’s mother in law, gramma, was “Ma” to my mother. My mom was the only one of FOUR daughter in laws that called her “Ma” the rest called her Mrs. _______.
My mom passed away and I really love my future Mother in law… and Fiance and I fight, completely jokingly, about me calling her “Mom” he keeps saying… she’s not your mother. His sisters bf calls her Mom .. and his brothers wife calls her by her first name ….. So I asked her tonight if i could call her “Ma” and she said YES she’d be honored…….. SOOOO what do you call your mother in laws

Considering I still call my stepmom, who has been in my life for as long as I can remember and is just as much a parent to me as my mom and my dad, by her first name, I’ll probably always call her by her first name. But that’s just me.

@HisIrishPrincess: My mum passed away when I was young also but it would never feel right to call anyone else “Mom.” I do adore my Future Mother-In-Law but I just call her by her first name.

“The Bitch” or when I am feeling nice.. “The Beast”

I use her contracted first name – more of a nickname. I wouldn’t feel right calling her mom.

It felt weird at first to call my Mother-In-Law mom but I grew to love it. My father in law absolutely melts when I call him Dad. Actually, I call him the Albanian name for dad. It was also kind of weird at first to me. However, I love it now and wouldnt want to call them anything else. When I talk about them to other people I say their names but to their face or on the phone I call them mom and dad. They feel closer to me because of it and really do treat me like a daughter so it seems quite normal to me!

@MrsNeutrino: oh in that case then sometimes my hubby calls my mum “the harpy” 😉

I call my Mother-In-Law Mom and my Father-In-Law Dad when I’m talking to them directly. When I am talking about them to someone, then they are Anton’s parents to avoid confusion. 🙂 I love my IL’s and I see no disrespect in showing that. My mom and dad know that they will always be my parents and love that I have such a great relationship with my IL’s!

I just use her first name although I know that Future Sister-In-Law calls her “mum” too. FI’s stepdad is called by his first name too, so I just use that. I just find it reallt weird. 🙂

At first it was Mrs. ___ but then she kept telling me to call her by her first name so I do that now. I don’t think I could ever call her mom but my dad called his mother in law mom all the time and I think its cute but I don’t see us being that close. (My parents lived with her for the last 4 years of her life and visited her every year so they were close).

I just call them both by their first names.

I call my mother in law Mrs. Marie. I wouldn’t dream of calling her just Marie.
