I thought that the vow part was optional, like where you go & write your own personal vow to your soon to be spouse & you say it at the wedding.
FI’s dad told me the vows are the part where you repeat after the pastor, like “I take you to be my spouse til death do us part”.
I thought that the part where you repeat after the pastor was called something else, like the marrying part, idk the term thou!
So what part of the wedding is the vow? Is it both? Or one or the other?

Vows are the promises that you make to each other whether your write them yourselves or go with the traditional ones repeated after the officiant (so you and FIs dad are both right)

OH! haha than I must have sounded really wierd to the wedding cordinator earlier when I told her we didn’t want to do vows at the wedding. We were wanting to do personal vows with each other, after the wedding/ceremony/reception was all over. Fiance made this wierd comment that we were going to write them down & pass them to each other & read them later. We never talked about that & I was extremely confused.
