Okay I’ll admit, if my lovely Fiance hadn’t insisted on cheesecake instead of a traditional cake I’d never have taken on this project XD But it seems like no matter where we go to sample cheesecakes the ones I make always taste (and look) better! The only prob is that I’ve never decorated anything before so that will be a new adventure 😛 A few people are concerned I either won’t be able to pull it off or making my own cake will cheapen the experience. Bah! I just want a tasty dessert!
Anyone else such a bakerella that they dare make their own cake? ;3
By The Way my cakes will be: cherry, caramel machiatto, chocolate capuccino, and white chocolate raspberry – a sexy spread for sure!

Kind of…I’m making one small 9″ cake. We’re having all the women in our families make different kinds of cake. I didn’t want anyone to be offended that we didn’t use their cake for our cutting pictures, so I’m making one that we’ll cut.

@buttontoes:That’s a really cool idea! and a smart way to avoid hurt feelings 🙂

Fun! I’m making my own Rice Krispies cake, and I’m super excited about it. I wish I had better cake skills overall, but I’ve always hated cake so I never made it. Pie, now, is a whole other ballgame. Wishing I could serve hot-from-the-oven-pies! I would be in heaven

We’re doing pies! Two days before the wedding all the women in my family(atleast those who can cook!) will be gathering for a pie party! My grandmother will be making the bride and groom’s pie, the very delicious Rhubarb!

I’m doing my cake! My plan is to bake the 12″ bottom layer, have fake 10″ & 8″ layers, and a baked 6″ top. Were having a spread of deserts, pies, squares, etc, so we don’t need much cake – but I still want it to look substantial!

@Stevie.Brooks: I actually read about pies instead of cake in a wedding magazine 🙂 Can you believe thats how we got our idea to o cheescake

@MadameLady: If you are really concerned, I bet you could find a cake decorator who would JUST do the decoration part for you…? but I bet with the internet and YouTube you’ll be fine.
And I totally know what you mean.. my cheesecake is always better than what I find “out there” for purchase, with few exceptions. Heck, my CAKES are better too! My mom expects a b-day cake from me every year and gets seriously sad if I get her a store bought one. I just suck at making them look pretty, and often they are sliding or a little off balance or whatever when I do layers. lol. But they always taste like heaven!
I wish I could make our wedding cake…but we are getting married in another state, and we will be getting there a week before the wedding but we will have SO MUCH to do when we get there. I don’t want to add the stress of making a cake, buying supplies, and doing it all in an unfamiliar kitchen (we’re renting a house for the week). If we were marrying here at home I would totally go for it (and get my decorating-savvy friend to do that part!). 😉 I would love the savings as well!!

I have a small cake biz so everyone thinks im going to make our cake. But I really want an extravagant cake so would rather pass the task to someone who has a lot of time & isnt doing a million wedding things.
