I pack things I don’t use daily first, so books, DVDs, pictures, and otehr decorative items are some of the first to get boxed up. Then excess linens and kitchen items.

I found a trick online for movin g that worked pretty well…pack the least important things first, and keep moving in order or importance. As you pack, put a number on each box, starting with one and going in order from there. Then when it’s time to unpack, you unpack the biggest number first and work your way down, so you’re not digging through boxes looking for the stuff you really need!

And I still haven’t gotten my dress cleaned either…it’s definitely in my old closet at my parent’s house, haha.

Anything I don’t need right away! Decorative items (candles, paintings, etc.), books and DVDs, and clothes for the opposite season – for example, if I’m moving in summer, I’ll pack the sweaters, coats, and scarves.

I do it the way mrsSonthebeach does. I pack up all the unnecessary for every day life things first so they’re out of the way. I’ll also pack a survival kit for the new house while transitioning between the 2 places. That includes toiletries, a few outfits, some kitchen supplies and snacks for the kitchen.

Things you don’t really need / use.

I’d also pack up a few essentials that you have duplicates of. Pots, pans, cups, stuff like that, so that you can make yourself a snack when you get hungry trying to get the new place ready.

The first thing we moved in was our bed.  We wanted to be able to sleep in our new house the first night we owned it!

ETA: We already had our whole life in boxes in a storgae unit as we’d been living at our in-laws since moving half-way accross the country and house-hunting.

When i move in a few months i will be packing up all of the books and glass figurines first, to get them out of the way and out of harm’s way. Then probably i would start on my closet, then my dresser. The LAST things i will move is my bed, and my big tv that came from my grandpa would be the absolute last thing that comes through the door.

I pack my books, most of my clothes (I leave a skeleton wardrobe), most of the kitchen stuff (we get ready made food from then on), and most of the linens (just a few towels to tide us over), most of the bath stuff…

Basically everything except what we need to get by with!!

I always pack my books first. It’s a long task because there’s so many, but then I feel productive with so many boxes done!

Storage closets go first. Then the living room, then bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom/cleaning supplies last. I pack from least to most important…

I just moved two states over last week so I had a lot of time to think about this haha.
