Soak engagement ring in cleaner overnight?

I never did with mine on purpose, but I’m sure I’ve left my old ones in cleaner for a long time.  I don’t use the store bought stuff anyway, I use dish soap and hot water, soak for about 10 minutes, scrub, then rinse and dry off.  I do this about once a week or so.  I’ve heard not to clean your ring TOO much as it can wear down the metal (especially the rhodium on white gold) but I don’t know how true this is.

I wouldn’t dip it into chemicals every night, personally. Metals can wear down over time. I would do it once a week maybe, or only when it starts to lose it’s sparkle. I do not think it’s necessary to clean a ring every day.

I leave mine in Simple Green overnight once a week and then use a soft toothbrush to scrub it in the morning.

My jeweler recommened it.  Turns out nice and sparkly!

I leave it in the cleaner over night… every night! Nothing’s happened so far and my jeweler recommended it. It’s their own “branded-proprietary” (who knows) cleaner. Keeps my bling super shiny. My rings are all platinum so I don’t know if that makes a diff vs. white gold.

I have left mine in the cleaner overnight before…but definitely don’t do it every night. My rings are also platinum, so not sure that makes a huge difference. My jeweler let me know that it wasn’t harmful for my rings to do it…so I just clean it when it starts to look dingy.

I wipe mine down with Windex every so often but cleaning overnight every day would be a little much.  Metal wears away and quite frankly, my ring just doesn’t get that dirty.

Just a tale of caution for you: My mom accidentally left her ring in cleaning solution overnight and it turned black. I’m not sure what metal hers was made of, but she had to send it to the jeweler to be fixed. I only clean mine when it needs it now, and only for a short amount of time.

I definitely wouldn’t soak it overnight every night.  It is never going to be that dirty! I clean mine once a week or so, and usually only for a few minutes.

Congratulations! As excited as you are, you do not need to clean your ring every night, only when you feel it’s neccesary. But if you do leave it in the cleaner over night, if you have white gold it will strip it of it’s color so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you want constantly having your ring redipped.

My jeweler gave me the red jar (Connoisseurs Jewelry Cleaner) but didn’t say to soak it overnight.  I wouldn’t think the chemicals would be strong enough to cause too much damage to the ring, but then again you better make sure the metal is compatible to avoid what happened to MrsMcGyro‘s mom!

I don’t even like it when Darling Husband cleans them with cleaner (and that’s only dipping it and scrubbing it – not soaking it).  I’d say absoultely no to soaking it in cleaner all night.  Mine is white gold and I know that the cleaner is more harsh.  I take mine into the jeweler and have him clean it with his ultrasonic cleaner every once in awhile – I like doing it that way because it’s gentler on the metnals.

I clean my ring once a week. Sometimes I leave it overnight in the cleaner when I do it (only because I forget to take it out before bed). A year and a half later, no problems with my white gold.
