All three of them are nice. There’s also the Ritz Carlton that’s in the area as well. All of these are fabulous resorts and the weather will be fabulous! I think they’re all pretty similar so it’s just the location and costs to consider. Since you’re in LA, you’ll have a car (I assume) so you can get around OC pretty easily.

@byrdi:  Ooooh Pelican Hill! Jealous!

Sadly, I never stayed at any of these resorts because I was a socal resident, but when my friend visited, she stayed at the Ritz. It was really nice but I remember thinking the standard rooms were pretty small. The pool was over run with children though, which was a little annoying… The grounds and beach are gorgeous though!

I grew up there so I know each of those hotels.  When I saw this thread, my first thought was Surf & Sand.

I absolutely adore the Surf & Sand. It is smaller than each of the other hotels so it feels much more intimate. The spa there is also fantastic!  Each room there has an ocean view if its not ocean front.  Plus, the food is great.

You could also consider the St Regis in Monarch Beach.  This, Pelican Hill, the Ritz and the Montage are gorgeous but much, much bigger.  It really just depends on what you want.

I want to go to Topanga Canyon, actually. Saw it in a travel show once and there seems to be plenty of stuff to do. Vineyards, museums, markets, etc. 🙂
