smhh : It was surpisingly easy ordering to the UK! We ordered on 23rd October and it arrived on the 3rd November. Super quick! All the tracking info is provided online so we were able to see exactly when it was being made, when it shipped and when it arrived in the UK. I saw on the MoCo website that they can ship the item as ‘costume jewellery’ with a stated value of $100 to deter theft, so I made a note in the comments box to ask for this – it has the added bonus of UK customs only charging us import tax on $100 instead of the $850 we paid (so we only paid about £16 import tax) – but this isn’t necessarily guaranteed because cutoms might decide to open the package to inspect the value. It was delivered by FedEx, so they pay the tax for you and then send you an invoice a few weeks after delivery so you have to reimburse them. Fedex add a £12 ‘advancement fee’ (admin fee), but I googled it and found a template online that can be used to argue that you don’t have to pay the admin fee. Once we recieved the invoice I sent Fedex an email with the template and they immediately removed the admin fee and sent me a new invoice by email (PM me if you want me to send you a copy of the email I sent them).
One tip to avoid non-sterling transaction fees – use a credit card that allows international payments. We used our Halifax clarity credit card. It gives you the mastercard exchange rate and no additonal fees on top.
