- Wedding: April 2010
Last weekend, my fiance’ and I took part in a Solemn Engagement Ceremony at St. John Cantius Parish in Chicago. We aren’t getting married there as we’re from Wisconsin, but my fiance’ was going to school in Chicago and graduated last weekend. He had arranged to get our engagement blessed the day after his graduation. Our parents and I stayed at a Benedictine B&B Saturday night. Its was basically some space in the monastary attached to the Benedictine Church that had been converted into a nice apartment like space. It was really cool, especially hearing the monks chanting coming through part of the walls in the morning.
Anyway, the ceremony went like this:
Unless the house be of the Lord’s building, in vain do the builders labor.
Unless the Lord be the guard of the city, in vain does the guard keep his sentry.
It is futile that you rise before daybreak, to be astir in the midst of darkness,You that eat the bread of hard labor; for He deals bountifully to His beloved while they are sleeping.
See, offspring come from God’s giving, a fruitful womb is the reward of His blessing.
Like arrows in the hand of the warrior, are children begotten of a youthful father.
Happy the man who has filled them his quiver; they shall uphold him in contending at the gate with his rival.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
