@strawbs:  I can ALMOST see how yours sits in that tiny little “profile” picture (can’t figure out how to enlarge it) – it looks lovely!  What made you chose the 4 over the 6 prong – or is 6 not an option if you have a square stone?

@TexanWife:  LOVE the sapphires in your wedding band!!  When you chose it, did you have to worry about it fitting snugly to the e-ring…another consideration the jeweler brought up that I didn’t even think about!

I’ve had both 4 and 6 prong settings and I prefer the 4 prong hands down.

I don’t like the way the 6 prong looks overall because you cover up more of the diamond.  I personally like the slightly squarish look the 4 prong makes a round stone look.  And the prongs in a 4 prong are pretty thick – thicker than each indivial prong in a 6 prong setting.

I think a cathedral setting would look much nicer with 4 vs 6 prongs.

I have a 4 prong, but oh how I lust over a 6 prong Tiffany setting! Also, I’ve realized that with ,y 4 prong setting, more of my diamond girdle is exposed, and I think I have a nick on it 🙁 I like the extra security of a 6 prong. Ohhhh the things you learn as you go through life!!!

Mines is a princess cut and I think with this cut the 4 prong is better.

    What cut do you want?

@houstonlawbride:  Beautiful ring! What the carat size on your e-ring? It’s huge! (:

4 platinum prong for me and I love the fact that I can see more of the diamond.  but since my stone is 1.3 ct, I feel a 6 prong might secure it better. Also sometimes people confuse mine with a princess cut since the 4 prong makes my round diamond look like a square.

I chose four because I originally wanted a cushion but eventually chose round (because rounds face up larger and sparkle more) and thought four prongs gives it a subtle look of a cushion shape. Disclaimer: she is not mine yet…I “snuck” these shot while SO was at work :-X

I just got engaged and my boyfriend (fiance now!) picked out my six prong ring and I love it! It’s from Blue Nile – the petite nouveau solitaire. 1.1, I-color, VS2 and really awesome cut thanks to the HCA calculator so it sparkles like crazy.  I’m a size 6 for those who want to know proportions.
