I can’t speak to national retailers since I had my ring custom made by a local jeweler. But I know you can find great diamond rings in the $1k to 1.5K range. Good luck and be sure to post pics!

Look on line and in pawnshops!  Here have been some of my finds

image120.20 I I1 14k setting $100 from a local pawn shop (looking on Zales it would be $700)

image171.47 H I1 14k setting $150 from Ebay

I think you can get something amazing looking online… try looking on pricescope.com  they pull from all sorts of online sites for diamonds. If you don’t care about the specs other then it looking like a good stone go to pawn shops. You will get something way nicer for the price then at a mall store.

I went the alternative route! My whole ring (stone+setting) totaled to around $1500. We could have gone diamond but I didn’t want to spend as much and this still allowed me to get the look I want. There are a ton of threads about this kind of thing and some people get really heated but I really think it just comes to personal preference.

My Amora Gem Ultra is 1.36 carats, F, VS1 on a 14k gold 2mm band! My finger size is 5.5, for reference if you want it

ETA: If you do decide to go alternative, the Amora Gem is a great option because you never have to upgrade if you don’t want to! That’s true for a lot of alternatives actually but it is harder than say a sapphire. Just FYI!

I just saw a .5 ct diamond solitaire on DiamondBistro this morning when I went online. It was only $150! What a crazy deal. I bet it sold already though.

gbee:  My stone is from goldandgems.com and I got my setting separately from a small jeweler in town! Yeah my Fiance thought I was kidding too haha but he was more than willing to go along with it once I showed him my research! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about Amora Gems/moissanite! I went a liiiitle crazy researching haha

gbee:  haha perfect! I’m sure you already know this but be sure you’re purchasing an Amora Gem Ultra, not an amora moissanite – they’re totally different things. Good luck! Update us with what you get!
