sqldudette:  love your ring especially with the slightly bigger band! Perfect size too! Did you get a say in the stone size?

mrs24:  My Fiance picked it out but since we ordered online from Blue Nile he let me scope it out first but I didn’t make any changes, since he did a great job!

mrsp2016:  Is that 2mm band width on the engagement ring?

For those with a round solitaire stone, do you think the 4 prongs or 6 prongs keeps the round shape better?    Does one or the other tend to give the ring a square shape based on prong count and prong layout?

happygirl2016:  My engagement ring is 2mm in width. I tend to think that the six pronged setting gives it a more rounded look, and the four pronged setting, while possibly showing more of the diamond, sometimes makes the round stone look a little bit square.

My .91ct G-color Round Brilliant solitaire on a 2mm platinum band, size 4.5 finger.

And from the side:

happygirl2016:  I was adamant about wanting 6-prong because I didn’t want my Round Brilliant to look square. But having worn it for nearly 2 years now (I was engaged in 2013 and married in 2014), I really don’t think it makes a difference. I have read that stones under 1ct look larger with 4 prongs, and I tend to agree! I often wish I had gone with 4 prongs, because 6 seems to dwarf/overwhelm my stone, and I’ve never seen 4 prongs make a round stone look square.

happygirl2016:  The band is about 2.5mm at the back and side and then tapers to a point at the centre.
