Tossed the birth control at the end of July, hoping luck is on our side & I get pregnant. I’m almost 36, so time is not in my favor. For the past 2ish weeks, I’ve had this crampy, nauseous feeling, worse in the morning, spent a week exhausted even though I was sleeping plenty, & had some of the worst pre-PMS symptoms ever. Took one test 2 weeks ago (around the time I was expecting my period), another last week, & another this past Tue. All negative. Part of me knows it’s just wishful thinking, especially because he got so convinced that I was. But I’m now over 2 weeks late, still feeling lousy, & at this point I’d welcome my period, if only to stop me from having false hope.

Don’t lose hope. I had three false negatives with my second daughter and was three weeks late. I went to the ob after a month for my regular check up and ta-da, I was pregnat. Also, 36 isn’t old. I have a friend who is 42 and pregnant.

I always tell people to have their thyroid checked if a period goes MIA for too long. I guess if your levels get off, it can cause amenorrhea. That happened to me. Then again, as my PA said, sometimes periods “just do that.” As in- just go missing for no reason at all. I have had a few times where I wondered if I was pregnant and now I have resolved myself to absolutely assume I absolutely am NOT until I absolutely am = absolutely have been confirmed to be. Too much rollercoaster.

Hmmm, home pregnancy tests can give you false negatives. Go see a Doctor for a more accurate test.
You sound pregnant to me… those symptoms were certainly mine in the first month (way back when)
On the other hand… it is early days since you chucked out the BC… so it could be hormones. OR you are having what is known as a “sympathetic” pregnancy (seeing as you mentioned wishful thinking) where your body is expressing what your mind is thinking. I had one of those shortly after I tossed BC before my first baby… Period came finally around the 3 or 4 week point (so almost like I missed one)
Mind you, I chocked it up to the fact that I desperately wanted to be pregnant, and had several GFs who were… so a lot of my free time was socializing with them… and talking babies (sympathetic pregnancies, are kind of like how as women we can get our periods “in sync” with other women if we hang around long enough)
Anyhow, like I said… get yourself to a Doctor. Also cannot hurt if you haven’t done so for a Pre-Pregnancy Check Up since you chucked the BC. A Doctor can give you a lot of great info about how to maximize your chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby (example… food choices, and WHEN they are important etc)
Hope this helps,

@OkieHeart: Don’t lose hope! But at the same time, protect yourself by not being super optimistic. There are several reasons you could be “late,” and pregnancy of course is one of them! If you go 2 months without a period, you should see your doctor. He/she will check some things, make sure you’re not pregnant and then they can induce a period. Good luck, fingers crossed!

@OkieHeart: You could be pregnant but if it is your 1st month off BCP it could just be hormones.
I came off the BCP early July and only just got AF earlier this week so I had a 49 day cycle! I was temping and charting so wasn’t too worried as I saw exactly when I ovulated and then sure enough exactly 14 days after ovulation AF came.
If I was you though I would go to the Dr, I didn’t have any of those symptoms you are listing!

Got a blood test done & results were negative, so the dr prescribed something to “make” my period start. If so, then we’ll try again. If not, back to the doc to see if he can tell me anything. I’ve always heard that most doctors won’t be concerned until you’ve been trying for 6 months, so I guess I have a few more months before I start worrying (ya right!)
