@techie: maybe she did that section before you guys were FB friends? or just forgot, if she has like 400 FB friends like a lot of people do, or maybe the other people added her, or any of 100 other reasons. honestly, i’m like… 97.5% sure there’s no malice or intent to exclude you, so please don’t take it to heart! instead, just list her as your family on yours! everyone has that section to update so she could just as easily feel burned that you haven’t added her as family on yours. not saying she does, just that it’s a reciprocal feature that can be overlooked.

@techie: πŸ™ I’m sending you a ton of virtual hugs.  So sorry you’re feeling terrible about this.  I absolutely hate that you feel this way because I know exactly how it feels.  I have always been the “black sheep” in my family (I have four younger brothers and three boy cousins).  It may be because I am girl, but it sucks that your own brothers don’t take the time of day to even contact you, visit you, etc.  I always get told it’s their age, but I don’t give a shit.

Sorry, I don’t want to thread-jack or make this about me, but just know I know exactly how you feel.  I wish there was something we could do to change people.  They have to learn on their own.

On my facebook the only people who show up under “Family” are people who have actively requested through some sort of app that I acknowledge I am in fact related to them. Therefore I have my Mother-In-Law and an aunt, no one else despite being facebook friends with my brothers and all my cousins. So it’s not that I’m leaving people out, it’s just that no one else has sent a request through that app so it does not show up on my page.

I am the worst facebooker, I don’t pay attention to notifications, I barely ever read invites and I don’t tag/poke/whatever. People take it so personally and I don’t understand why!

@techie: Well, they all claim that I’m the princess, but I disagree. πŸ˜‰

@techie: That’s why I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. People get upset about things and then they ask “Why did you ignore/leave me out/not comment” and I’m like huh? What? If anyone in my family asked “Why didn’t you list me in Family” I’d tell them “I don’t even know how to add you!” and it would be the truth. I’m glad you see it’s no big deal because I just think it’s sad that so many relationships these days are all about the Facebook relationship rather than the real life one.

I’m technologically disadvantadged, so people send me requests all the time for weird family tree stuff or ask you to oragnaize your friends list into some group shit, I just ignore it all and I get along with all my family IRL. Facebook is so silly and strange!

I wouldn’t worry about it, but I know how hurtful it can be to feel left out πŸ™

hugs!

@KatyElle: hear hear!

@techie: see, the fact that you didn’t even know that feature existed when it’s been on there for probably a year means you shouldn’t begrudge her. :] you can cultivate your own “family” section under the edit profile > family (or something like that) options and problem solved… or created if someone doesn’t notice your request x_x
