luckily no one was home…lost some cash and some accessories…still sucks…
they broke the side glass panel at the front door to get in. Now we need to get it replaced.
I helped my mom called a glass repair place this morning. They will come out to do estimate this afternoon. But they said once they order it, it will take 3-5 days to get the job done (maybe he meant ordering the glass part or sth?)
does it usually take this long?
My mom is super worried about having a broken window for this long and I can’t even concentrate on writing my invite (I was trying to send them out ASAP but she kept bothering me)
Anyone had to replace glass at their home before? Any tips or feedback on how this should be done will be much appreciated.

It hasn’t happened to me, but is there another place she can call for a second estimate?
I’m glad it was only things taken… things can be replaced, people/pets/heirlooms can’t! Still really sucks though, sorry!

I’m not sure how long those things take. Maybe because it’s a sidelight it’s not a normal size window? Or maybe there’s some other involved work. The company should board it up in the meantime. Either way, I’m really sorry to hear about your parent’s house. That’s really stressful. You feel so helpless.

It depends on what type of glass it was. Was it beveled, insulated or anything like that? If it is anything other than regular pane glass then yes, it will take a bit of time for them to order it. They can’t just go back and cut it and bring it over. If it is regular single pane glass then they should be able to cut it at their shop and install it quickly. However, front doors can be tricky sometimes. So sorry that that happened 🙁
** My Dad own a glass company. PM me if you would like me to ask him any questions about your estimate.

Thats scary – i’d try a different glass company. That one could just be too busy to come out sooner. My FI’s brother works for glass company. As far as i know it just depends if they have it in stock in the warehouse otherwise they gotta order it. If its an unusual size then your prolly gonna have to wait for it. Call around – no harm in asking!
Those side glass panels worry me! They should just be on one side of the door – opposite the doorknob but thats not always the case. Fiance wants to get stronger glass put in there so its harder to break.

They did take the watch that has a lot of sentimental value for my dad for working at the company for over 25 years. He only wore it once for my sister’s wedding and was planning to wear at my wedding.
My parents are out of town, so I was the one dealing with the cops and of course the estimate/repair.
I am trying to call around and see if there is anyone can give me estimate on the phone or at least has a faster fixing time…
the side panel is around 1′ x 3′. My mom just wants double panel with sanded glass so it won’t see through. Not sure if this is standard size though :/
Sorry, I am in a very bad mood. I kept trying to finish my invites this week and shxt keep happening…it’s stressing me out.

@Kate0558: you know, that’s exactly what we think! I didn’t think it would be soooo easy to break in using the side panel.
Ladies, just some information. Per the sherriff I talked to, he said a lot of people are targeting houses with side glass panel like mine. Since ours were clear glass (still don’t know why they weren’t sanded), we put a curtain behind it and cop says the thieves particularly pick houses like this, as once they break in, you can’t really tell if it’s broken since there is still a curtain behind it 🙁

Your parents might want to consider getting a front door without glass in it. I know that’s always a no-go for me. Way too easy to pop the glass out, reach in, and get the dead bolt undone! Might as well make them work for it!
