Our dog has a similar story. She was found wandering around some main street in southern Oregon, and was reported to the humane society there by several people. They came out, found her, and brought her in. They actively sought out owners for 2-3 weeks, but no one ever contacted them. Then they couldn’t sell her down there (I guess no one wanted her?!), so they sent her up to Portland (a much bigger city), which is where we found her! She  was SUPER skittish and cringed and ran every time people raised an arm near her. Seriously, the first day I brought her home I had 2 of my girlfriends over to meet her, and I was making some food. I turned around and raised my arm that was holding the spatula so I could prop my elbow on my other arm, and she yelped, tucked her tail and hunched over. It was sooo sad! Poor baby. Here is a picture of her then, an estimated 2 years old at 23 pounds, after a MONTH of being found and the shelter trying to nurse her back to health (she too nervous to sit still then!):

And here she is just a few days ago at 32 pounds (yes that’s right, she gained almost a third of her weight living with us! AND she’s still a skinny dog!):

There’s not too many things that I get emotional over, except one thing, seeing pictures and hearing stories of how cruel humans can be to animals.

I know this sounds all sappy but I have to wonder if your lab that passed, didn’t help guide her to your house.

She will always know you saved her life.

WHO DOES THAT?!?!?  Thank you so much for keeping her!!!  I hate when people treat animals badly, it makes me so mad becuase there’s no reason for it and they can’t fight back.  I hope karma bites that person in the ass.

What is WRONG with people? Poor sweetheart, I can’t even fathom starving a dog to that state and then dumping her. If you can’t/won’t take care of your pet, at least surrender them to a shelter, instead of letting them waste away and then sneaking them off somewhere to leave for dead. I wish we could find who did this to her. Animal cruelty laws aren’t nearly harsh enough for what that person deserves. Let’s make them go weeks without food and see how they like it.

Anyway, she’s lucky she has you now. Please keep us updated periodically. I want to see her put some meat on those bones!

This just made me cry. It’s so hard for me to even imagine how anyone could treat an animal that way. You are wonderful for brining this dog in an providing her with such a wonderful life. It will take time but she will be healthy and very happy before you know it. Darling Husband and I rescued a very sick dog malnutritioned, no stomach lining, worms, parasites. She is now extremely healthy and is they most loving dog I have ever had in my entire life (and I have always had dogs). I always say she rescued me.
