I must of dropped my iphone somewhere in Ikea yesterday while I was going through my purse. I didn’t hear it drop, because it was in a padded case. I know someone found it and took it, because we kept calling it and eventually someone turned it off, because it went straight to voicemail (it had a full battery). I’m really upset because it had pictures of me with my dress on for the first time; I hadn’t had a chance to copy them to my computer yet. I also know that I sent the picture to my work email and all email from that time frame is missing from my inbox.
I’m not sure what the person who found it is going to do with it. It was reported as stolen/lost and can never be reactivated again. They might sell it for parts, I guess. Or they might rip someone off and sell it on ebay.
My Fiance knows I’m upset, but continues to scold me for not taking better care of it. 🙁
Why do people suck so much?
Anyone have any feel good stories about people doing something good that you would like to share to make me feel better about the human population?

I dont have any feel good stories but i just wanted to say SORRY and send you some ((((hugs)))) hopefully have insurance on the phone.
what company are you with because ALL iphone have a GPS tracker and the insurance company should be able to track your phone..even if it is powered off.
Hope your day gets better pumpkin!

Did you go to customer service and ask if someone turned it in? That sucks. I’m sorry…I would be so upset if someone stole something from me. Why can’t people just be honest and take things they find in stores to the front desk and say ‘this was on the floor, someone might be looking for it’? Do people not realize that this would make the world better, instead of being selfish and uncaring and keeping it for themselves?!

I dont really have any personally, my friend just got BOTH his ipods in his car stolen last week.
But I did see a story on the bee about someones Fiance losing his debit card afraid that someone had swiped all his money already, but when he got to a bank, someone had turned his card in. There is hope that there are still decent people out there… We’ve found wallets on the ground before, and mailed it back to the owners, though we did take the $5 cash out the of the wallet to pay for it…

I didn’t have insurance on it 🙁 I thought it was an unneccessary expense, because I’ve never broke or lost a phone before this; I have always been very careful, so I don’t know what happened yesterday.
I have Verizon.
What sucks is if the person tries to activate service on the phone, Verizon can’t take it even though it was reported lost/stolen.
And thanks for the hugs 🙂

@soyjoy222:I did go to the customer service desk…no one had turned it in yet. I left my FI’s name and number with them just in case someone turns it in. I retraced my steps in the gigantic Ikea store. I tried soo hard to find it.

- Wedding: September 2011 - Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California)
Oh my gosh, that just sucks! A few months back, someone pick-pocketed my FI’s phone, and then called me and tried to blackmail my Fiance to return it. He basically wanted my Fiance to give him $50 for his phone. Even though it cost more to get a whole new phone, my Fiance was not going to meet up with some crummy guy and give him $50 for a phone that belonged to him. People really do suck sometimes. 🙁

Sorry to hear!! Ive found phones before. I usually call people in the phone and learn whoes phone it is, then tell them to tell that person I have it. Eventually yhey get their phones back.

@parasol: Omg the same thing happened to my MIL!!! Someone stole her phone when she was at a conference. She called and called and eventually someone picked up. Some homeless guy had it and was at a bus station with it. She offered him money if he’d put it in a cab and send it to her. They had this huge back and forth, he got really angry and started making demands, so she just had the phone deactivated and ended up buying a new one. Thankfully the phone company (Virgin) felt really sorry for her and gave her a new phone of about $400 for $50!!!

I had my wallet stolen once – and it had my social security card in there because I had just started a new job! It sucked initially, but worked itself out. A guy even called saying he found my wallet and offered to bring it to me, with everything but the cash still in there. He asked me out after giving it to me, but I declined because I was dating someone else at the time. I was also a little suspicious he was the one to take it in the first place. Should have given him some $ as a reward but I was a poor new grad and it didn’t occur to me.

This happened to me with my blackberry , it was the white bold and I dropped while skiing (fml) . I was calling and then it seemed like it was turned off – I was hoping it was dead in the snow opposed to someone having my personal information/emails . 3 Days later I got a call from someone saying they had found it that night (still strange that they didnt contact me for 3 days) but I got it back ! hold on to hope !

I found someone’s cell phone in the middle of a gravel the road yesterday actually. I cleaned it up (it was full of dust and sand), then sent a mass text to everyone in the contacts: “I have found your friend’s phone. Call or text me at xxx-xxxx so I can return it”. I got a reply from one of the friends that he was with the owner at a park across town. So I drove there to give it to him.
Now… I hope you feel better. 🙂
