I dunno…I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man in a Bill L. dress a few years ago, and they ordered me a 6.  In real life I’m more like a 3-4. And then when it came in they were like, “Who ordered this dress for you, it’s way too big” and they had to take it in a whole bunch.  But they say you have to order for the biggest part of you (for me, my hips) So I really don’t know!  Yeah….guess I wasn’t that much help.

I just ordered a BL Bridesmaid or Best Man dress.  I’m usually a 6/8, and they ordered me a 12.  My measurements were 35, 29, 38.  I’m expecting lots of alterations.

Edit: just saw your other post. The dress I had to order was fitted on top, but real flowy after the waist, so they didn’t consider my hip measurement when ordering the dress. If your girls are wearing empire waist dresses, then I would focus on the bust measurement.

I ordered from a BL seller in MA. I know for a 12 the size chart said the waist was a 29.5.  I remember because I was trying to convince them that the 10 was fine with a 28.5 waist, but they kept insisting that I go up a size.

Not to make things more confusing for you, but my 5 girls wore BL dresses, and everyone ended up in a dress one or two sizes larger than their street size. I tried one on too, and likewise would have order one size up from my street size (I wear a street size 6 and am a 34D to 34DD in the chest and would easily fit in a BL size 8 for my dress style). My BL dress was fitted through the top and waist and free (loose, a-line) at the hip measurement.

It’s often really difficult for a non-seamstress/tailor to properly measure a body. My mom, who used to sew a ton, measured me for a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress order a few years ago, and I ended up ordering a dress about 3 sizes too big for me. Is there a tailor near you (or possibly the salon where you ordered your dress) that would be willing to measure your girls? Offer to pay her/him to do the measuring. A few dollars to get proper dress measurements will save your girls a ton in alterations. One of my BMs lives in a city where she couldn’t try on a BL dress, and this is what she did. Good luck!

We’re looking at Bill Levkoff dresses for my BMs and when we went to the dress shop this past weekend the sales lady did say that the BL dresses run smaller then normal street sizes.

My friend usually wears a size 6 in street clothes and tried on a size 12 BL dress and it was only a little big in the bust area.  She is only an A or B cup.

I just picked up a dress for a wedding I’m in that is BL and they measured me 5 sizes bigger than my street clothes and another Bridesmaid or Best Man dress I had just ordered.  I talked them down to only 4 larger than I was and I could have taken the dress off without unzipping it because it was so big.

I am trying right now to figure out the girls sizes for BL. One of my Bridesmaid or Best Man didn’t measure herself and just said order me a 4, because that’s what I always am and I’ll make it work. Meanwhile, each other Bridesmaid or Best Man is ordering at least 1 if not 2 sizes up from their normal. So I’m stressing. But then again, some of you are saying it really WAS too big when you ordered, so I’m hoping that’s the case. Worst case scenario they are too small.

I wore a Bill Levkoff dress for my sister’s wedding three years ago. My dress was a size 6 and I am a small size 4. My bridesmaids are wearing Bill Levkoff too and most of them got size 6s or 8s and they usually wear a size 0-6; two pregnant bridemaids got a size 12.

I either got a 10 or 8 in Levkoff.  I am a consistent 4 in every store size.  I still had to get it taken in in the chest and hips, but I have more of a boyish figure rather than hour glass so my waist bumped it up to a larger size.  Don’t worry about the size, go by the measurements.

Two of my bridesmaids are wearing Bill Levkoff dresses and they both had insanely large sizes too. The dresses haven’t arrived yet, but I’m anticipating some alterations.
