Now I keep getting random, useless crap sent to my house!
Amex called me to inform me of irregular activity on my card and proceeded to list 30 websites which orders were placed that I had never visited, including Match.com and a bunch of videogame sites!!
They cancelled my card and sent me a new one, but now I am getting random crap that this person ordered to my house, including 100 Vistaprint invitations for my own birthday party which I am apparently throwing at my house next week. 1) My birthday is in March and 2) they spelled my city name wrong and the time was listed as 18:00 hours (obviously not me who placed the order).
I’m kinda freaked out. Has anyone else had something similar happen??

omg. luckily i have not had anything like this happen to me but i have heard of stories. sending invites to your home??? that’s really weird. it’s kind of scary that they know your address too. sometimes they only have your cc #.
as soon as there is ONE unusual cc purchase, my cc company will put a hold on my card and call me immediately. i really appreciate it.

Bump – looking for someone with similar experience and advice. Thanks!

What the heck?! What criminal is stupid enough to buy stuff on your card but get it shipped to your house?! What is the point in that?! I’m sorry, I have no advice, but I hope you enjoy the free stuff or sell it on Craigslist and get a few bucks 😉
Something that occurred to me though – Could this be someone that you know? How did your credit card numbers get stolen? I’m just wondering how they got your address…

I’ve had people steal my card numbers before but they never sent things to my house. If your credit card has been canceled and the charges are reported as fraudulent, you shouldn’t have to pay for anything that was charged. If your bill comes due and they haven’t reversed the charges, don’t pay the amount that includes any of the fraudulent activity. Thankfully it was your credit card, they got my debit card once and that money was out of my account for almost a month!

@bakerella: I doubt it’s someone I know. Everything points to someone from oversees (the way the date and time is written, the fact that they spelled my city wrong..etc). I also don’t think it’s from a place that I used my card at becuase I only use it for work and use my office address to book hotels, plane tickets, rental cars…etc. However, I receive the statements at my home address, so they probably got all of my cc info in one shot. I’m guessing it was from one of those “massive security breaches” at the credit card companies.

This actually happened to FI’s family. Apparently it’s some sort of international scam where they get some percentage of profits for a referral or something. Nothing for you to worry about, just enjoy the free stuff! His family got a crazy amount of batteries and some really great steaks. They got a bunch of other stuff too, but those are the ones that stick out to me.

Woah, no advice here, but thats incredibly weird! 😛

What? Why did they buy invitations to a party at your house? IMO, there are only 2 reasons that could happen:
1. It’s someone who’s messing with you, maybe someone you know?
2. They bought something just to run your card, and someone at the business is in on it.
I hope everything works out! Once my sister’s card was charged $84,000 because some unattentive employee at a huge publishing company mixed up the numbers. Yikes!

@CanAmBride: Sounds like a real mess!! But in case 100 people show up at 18:00 next week, maybe bake a cake to get ready? Kidding! No not really, cake is delicious 😉 I hope you get it sorted out soon and that the credit card company is working with you to reverse all the charges!

CanAmBride – I was searching the internet, and saw your post. I just had this happen to me, and was freaked out. I have things about War showing up at my house, a WWII pack with books, and survial bags, and War Video Games, crazy stuff. I was wondering – did you figure out what happened? I reported it to my credit cards, whi retrieve the money, and reported it to the police, who basically write it down. No one investigates, or even looks for the perosn who is doing this. I am really angry at this system right now. And I dont mean to sound this way, but I am less freaked out knowing it happened to other people, so I really appreciate you sharing – thankyou. I would love to hear how this turned out for you.
