@IzzyBear:  How did you make this in paint? I’m just curious, I didn’t think it had the ability to do any serious design.

You can download a 30 day free trial of photoshop online! At least you used to be able to.  That will make designing your invites a lot easier for sure. I designed my own in photoshop and they were gorgeous.

@IzzyBear:  Have you checked out Etsy? They have great invites & Save the Dates you can buy a copy and take it to a printer. Usully $35 or less. I can also recommend a Great and very affordable print company.

It cant be fixed that well really, you need a PNG with a transparent background.

@IzzyBear:  You can download free damask patterns for photoshop…. That’s what I did for my invites. I don’t know how easy it will be to use for someone that’s not at all familiar with photoshop though.  There are lots of great tutorials online.  But styles is right, what you posted probably won’t have clear edges if you take off the white background, since it is low res. What you’re looking for exists specifically for photoshop if you can learn how to use it a little bit. You’ll definitely have better results than you will without it.

@IzzyBear:  I see. Just checking. 🙂

Sure, you can turn it into a PNG in photoshop but it will still have the white background, you need to start transparent. It also might not print will because its a net copy. A PS expert may be able to pull it from the backgrond but you probably will have to pay someone to do it.

Just a suggestion, download GIMP.  It’s free and works almost exactly like photoshop. Fiance and I are also DIYing all of our paper projects for the wedding and I use GIMP because it’s free and he uses Photoshop (He got a copy for free through his game design courses while he was in college)…the controls pretty much work the same way for both and you can look up tutorials on how to use them.

@IzzyBear:  I certainly do know it… I can try googling a few resources for you when I’m at my computer (on cell phone now). If you design something and want me to size it correctly for you to 5×7 or whatever you want it to be, I can definitely do that, but I still recommend getting them printed somewhere and not trying to do that part yourself. It’s definitely cheaper if you already have the design and they should size it for you. Ours cost $150 total for invites + response cards and envelopes for both on nice paper. (75 total). That was way better than having to buy all those things separately at some of the popular online invite stores. They would have been even cheaper if we didn’t pick a fancier paper.

@IzzyBear:  We found a local printing shop.  I don’t know how common those are… seems like the type of place that’s often put out of business by online competitors.  But even Office Max might be able to do it, or a Fed Ex printing place (I don’t know if they do invites, but I’ve gotten other stuff printed at both).

You can turn the white background transparent with jasc animation shop.. it’s simple to do, but unfortuneately, I don’t have it on my computer anymore.
