My Fiance and I live about 400 miles from our hometown. We are planning a wedding for August 2012 in the city in which we now live.
We are also planning to have a more casual reception (probably just desserts and cocktails) in our hometown after the wedding (probably mid-October).
We have a tentative guest list of around 150-200 adults (plus their children). We know that not everyone will be able to make it to the wedding, but we want to invite everyone. We also want them to know we are having the hometown reception so they don’t feel pressured to make the trip.
I’m having trouble with the wording for the invitations. We will do the traditional wording for the “main event” (wording from the knot):
Mr. and Mrs. John L. Smithrequest the pleasure of your companyat the marriage of their daughterHeather MarietoMichael Francis JacobsonSaturday, the seventeenth of Maytwo thousand and eightat half past four in the afternoon.
Etc.
But how do I add that they are invited to hometown reception too?
Heather and Michael also invite you to celebrate with them in their hometown etc.??
We think we would include a response card that had both events on them and they could choose which one (or both) they plan on attending.
I found these two threads, but nothing seems quite right.
