My wedding is less than three weeks away, and I just realized that this decision had been set aside and never dealt with! Does anyone have a suggestion for a combined father/daughter, mother/son dance? Not religious, not overly cheesy?

Have you asked the parents what they want?

This was the hardest one for me to pick out. We also did a combined mother/son, father/daughter dance and I didnt want anything too cheesy or super emotional! (so totally understand)
We went with “How sweet it is” by James Taylor

DH’s mom passed away when he was little and my father is estranged (was invited, refused to come) So Darling Husband danced with my mom and I danced with his dad, to Mama’s Song by Carrie Underwood.

theatrejulia: Yeah… way back when, it was a series of “I dunno, what do you want?”
aubreeleann03: Oh, that’s really nice. Thanks!
vintagekitten: I love Frank Sinatra. Great choice!
princessbride1989: Very sweet! Thank you!
Stephefanie: I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s mom and your dad. It sounds like you’ve built a beautiful family together, though.

heylisten: We did this as well. I loved it! We used “When you wish upon a star” by Louis Armstrong.
ETA: We cut out the intro of the song because that part wasn’t really to our taste. The rest of the song is about three minutes long and perfect.

Thats frustrating. My father did that to me as well but my Mother-In-Law had a song she was wating to dance to for 10 years. She was really excited. Her song was My Loving Son. Super cheese but she had her heart set on it and she looks so happy in pictures. My father and I danced to Oh What a Wonderful World. Which is such a standard song but at that point I was tired of making decisions and it was easy. If he had his way we would be line dancing

We’re also doing a combined dance and are having trouble choosing a song. My Future Mother-In-Law is pretty easy going about the whole thing and doesn’t mind what song we pick, whereas my dad claims he doesn’t mind what song we pick but then shoots down our suggestions (and then won’t come up with any suggestions himself!). We also don’t want something too cheesy or sappy, as neither of us have that sort of relationship with our parents. At the moment, we’re tossing up between three options – Landslide by the Dixie Chicks, a cover of In My Life originally by The Beatles or a cover of There You’ll Be originally by Faith Hill.

We are doing a dance with our own kids to never alone by lady antebellum. Rascal Flatts, my wish, was a close second.

“Like a Rolling Stone,” Bob Dylan

Don’t Blink by Kenny Chesney or God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton 🙂

When you need me – Bruce springsteen. This was def one of the harder songs to figure it out!
