I’m in a similar situation to you (non-dancing music, same music taste etc). Fiance and I are both big Mumford fans! We’re thinking of having a band that sounds kind of like Mumford and Sons in style but that play other ‘hit’ songs. Something along the lines of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNV-3moPvgI

If you’re not having a live band, did you know Mumford & Sons have their own wedding album they did with a few other muscians with all upbeat wedding themed songs? It’s under the the name The Wedding Band – First Dance. Fiance and I are thinking of using the song ‘Take my hand’ as our first dance :)

As for ‘happy’ sounding songs of that kind of sound you might like here’s a some I can think of, but not all of them are love themed:

You Always Make Me Smile – Kyle Andrews
Change of Seasons – Sweet Thing
Lottery Winners on Acid – The Crimea
Gone Gone Gone – Phillip Phillips
Faster – Matt Nathonson
L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N or 5 Years Time- Noah and The Whale
The Way I Tend To Be – Frank Turner (lot’s of Turner’s songs are quite upbeat and have the kind of sound you might like. Maybe also check out ‘I Still Believe’, ‘Reasons not to be an indiot’, and ‘The Road’)
I’d rather dance with you – Kings of Convenience
Coney Island – Good Old War
Little Talks – Of Monsters and Men
Santa Fe – Beirut
Chocolate – The 1975
If I Could change your mind – Haim
A-Punk – Vampire Weekend
On Top of The World – Imagine Dragons

Hopefully something in there’s useful to you

Edit to add that I’m not sure why my post has formatted like that with the breaks, and I can’t seem to change it. Oh well

During cocktail hour I plan to play some music similar to Ottmar Liebert’s “Barcelona Nights”, relaxed but with some fun and warmth in the music. Kinda makes me think of being in a mediteranean patio cafe

LePetitJambon: we have several hours worth of this 🙂

Some that come to mind (though am happy to share the full 3 hour playlist) are

Crowded house Distant Sun

Oasis, Wonderwall

Florence and the Machine, Dog days are over

Never tear us apart, Inxs

Such great heights, Postal services

I will wait, Mumford and sons

Stick shifts and safety belts, Cake

Love me do, Beatles

Walking on a dream, Empire of the sun

MGMT, electric feel

God only knows, beach boys

Wish you were here, Pink Floyd

Love is all around, wet wet wet

All you need is love, Beatles

Foo Fighters, everlong

Avalanches, frontier psychiatrist.

Can’t remember others off the top of my head. Its eclectic, not all wedding or love focussed, but the music we love.

LePetitJambon: go for it. It’s my fiancé s favourite song. We figured the wedding is about us, so just chose all our favourite tunes to play. We’re listening to the playlist now. Sia, clap your hands is on.

Followed white stripes seven nation army.

We only ruled out songs with bad memories, or songs that are very overtly break up songs.

Just go with what you love.
