Our DJ at our wedding got things going with a conga line to Conga by Gloria Estevan. We went all through the room picking up people who wouldn’t normally dance and were sitting at their tables. It finished and broke up on the dance floor and people didn’t leave for the rest of the night! It was an epic dance party. I crowd surfed in my wedding dress to Backstreet’s Back! Amazing.

We also had the YMCA, Step By Step – New Kids on the Block, Gloria, Footloose. Was so incredible. I literally have never had so much fun. The boy band music really does it lol

Don’t control the DJ playlist too much, that is what you have hired them for! They can read the crowd and make estimations on what will get people on the dance floor, it is their job.

Only make a list of 6 key songs that have to be played throughout the night and any songs that you really don’t want playing so that they can avoid them.

Uptown Funk

Yeah by Usher

rosalily :  Wait, this is a thing? You’re only supposed to give the DJ six songs (between both of your picks?) yell Oh man, I’m going to be a terrible client then…

akshali2000 :
You’ve paid a dj to come and work the party, if they are a good dj then they will be able to judge which songs will work best with your crowd.

Genuinely we just gave our dj

For Good- from Wicked! (our first dance)

Summer Nights- from the musical Grease (not the mega mix)
I know you so well- from Chess
All I ask of you- Phantom of the Opera
You can’t stop the beat- Hairspray
Dancing Queen- Mamma Mia
Baywatch theme tune- for the lifesavers

I know on the night other people requested a few songs such as Sinatra’s My Way and other favourites.
But if the dj has a huge list from you then they may be too focused on trying to cram them all in rather than keeping the dance floor full

DJ suggested “Stand by Me” and it was very effective.  Also “Sweet Caroline” but I wanted that to be the last song in honor of my BOston roots.

Any BSB song, Truck Yeah by Tim McGraw, ACDC, I was born in 85. My fiance laughs that I like BSB, but whether or not he likes it we are playing BSB. lol
