… again. We tried it upstate where she lives. Now we’re trying it here in NYC. I love her to death but this wedding has gone to her head. There have been many comments that lead me to believe she’s unaware that this is in fact MY wedding. Anyhoo, if you suggest a real deal ‘Mother of the Bride dress’, she’ll die. She wants something a bit more like a formal cocktail dress.
She has already put Bloomingdale’s, Nordstroms and Saks on her list. But really she’ll want more customer service than they’ll provide, something more like a boutique.
Can anyone suggest a nice store to go to? Or should I just stick with the stores she has in mind?

Do you have any Bridal Boutiques there? Try those too

Mark Ingram has a MOB salon now, but not stuffy or matronly and they have great service

i think saks is a good call. i imagine that there are some bridal salons that also do dresses for moms, like kleinfeld’s and the bridal atelier. good luck!

We have probably have zillions of bridal boutiques! But some are reputable, some aren’t and she’s only going to be here a couple days. Going to all of them would be impossible so I’m hoping someone has had a good experience with one and they can recommend it. And if I say bridal boutique she way not wanna go, remember, she refuses to wear a ‘Mother of the Bride’ dress! Lol
Thanks DVsMom! Sounds right up her alley!

Kleinfelds (i know, i know) has an entire collection of evening gowns, which are lovely and not matronly at all. In fact, one of the dresses I nearly bought was also for sale in their evening wear department in black (a Romona Keveza). And they do have great service.
Also – make at appointment at Saks if you intend to visit their bridal salon for dresses, they don’t encourage walk-ins. If you just want to shop their “ready to wear” you should be fine.
Oh – and there isn’t a Nordstrom’s in the city, the closest one is out on LI. Try the 5th ave stores – Saks, Bloomies, Bergdorf’s and Neiman’s.

Thanks AprilBride! Yeah, the Nordstroms isn’t far from my apartment actually, we’ll have a car so it’s like 20 mins. This will be an exhausting weekend huh? Lol

Try Barney’s, they will def. have something different and good customer service! I got my rehearsal dinner dress there and loved it! Also, Bergdorf’s but it can be very pricey 🙁

i don’t have any suggestions, as i’m from fl. this post just reminded me of my mob shopping experience…. where i sent my mom off to nyc to shop with my sister/moh! my sister now hates me a little for it because my mom was very difficult, but maybe that’s my suggestion. send her off with someone else to do the dirty work!
