my wedding is in about 14 months. is it to soon to start planning anything? not only am I just really excited and want to start planning asap but i’m also just a planner by nature and like to get a head start on everything but everyone is trying to convince me that 14 months is just way to far in advance to think about anything wedding related. your input please?

I don’t think it is too soon. I started planning right away. I already have all of my vendors booked and our wedding isn’t for another 10 months. If you book early, you can sometimes get a better deal before they hike up their prices. You also don’t have to feel rushed because you can check out more options.

I don’t think it’s too soon. I probably started collecting pictures and stuff of things I liked at about 2 yrs and then properly started planning and booking stuff at around 12 months out. Its interesting to see how my ideas have changed over time, but there’s still stuff that I loved 2 yrs ago that I love now and are going to be included in the wedding. If you’re a planner by nature go for it – you certainly won’t regret it like you would if you left things til the last minute! Go for it and have fun!

You should definitely start looking for vendors now. You will get MUCH better deals and sometimes even discounts. Definitely start planning. I started planning at about 14 months as well and everyone told me I was insane until now when I’m 2 months out and have hardly any stress. It will also allow you to help you set your budget and start saving.

A little confused, are you a “waiting” bee (as in, not yet engaged)? Is that why you think it might be too soon? I don’t see anything wrong with doing a little pre-planning, within reason. But if you already have an official date and are just waiting on a ring that’s been ordered or something, I say do as much planning as you want, as long as SO is comfortable with it.

I booked a lot of my vendors around the 12-14 month mark (photog, venue, caterer). I seemed to get better deals with some, and more leverage with others in doing so. For the photog, for example, I booked her at the end of her previous wedding season so the rates were lower than what they were if I booked her closer to the date. Also, even with this amount of time before the wedding, some vendors were already booked! A few venues on our list had limited dates in the month we wanted to get married, and once we set our date there were a few photographers already booked too. I don’t know if people in my wedding city just plan their weddings really early, but I’d keep your eye out and if you see a good deal, go for it. If not, voice interest but use the extra time to shop around for the best fits for you!

Thanks 🙂 i just keep getting told i’m just insane for wanting to plan stuff and start looking at venues soon. but you might say i’m OCD about planning if i let things sit to long and not do anything it starts to bother me lol. I also just want to get the best deals on everything i can and save money! this is already getting stressful because i’m pretty much alone in all of this as my fiance doesnt really talk about it much and never wants to go look and all of my friends INCLUDING my bridal party just think i’m crazy @MyraG its nice to know that i’m not so alone in this though lol

No I don’t think it is too soon. There are always magazines to look at and ideas to think about.

It’s never too soon to start planning your wedding. Just like what the other bees said, you can save money booking ahead. You just have to make sure that you will not change your mind later on. It’s less stress for you in the long run. I watch my aunt stressthe last 4 months before her wedding, you dont want to be in that same situation!

Nope! Not too soon at all!! Especially if you’re like me and change your mind a lot, or need a lot of time to develop your ideas. Our wedding is most likely going to be that month too… yay for month twins!! 🙂
We’re not *official* yet… but I’ve already started looking around, and we’ve found our reception hall. So, plan away!! 🙂

Mine is twelve months away, and we have already booked the venue for the rehearsal dinner, the ceremony, and the reception. Actually, our ceremony venue was already booked for the other three weekends in June 2011 when we booked it in May! Craziness! I would wait with ordering bridesmaid dresses in case you find some you like better later on or your maids lose/gain weight within the next several months. Otherwise, start compiling everything you like and start planning! Have fun! 😀
