i have two more days of finals, and DO NOT WANT TO STUDY ANYMORE haha. i’ve checked my facebook a million times, made brownies, and yelled at my textbooks. so i thought i would introduce myself to everyone as another means of not doing my homework…
i’m sara. i’m 24, 25 next month. i’m a student in my 2nd semester right now as a biology major with a concentration in secondary education so i can teach high school biology. i started pretty late to school bc i had NO idea what i wanted to do. i’m also a licensed cosmetologist, but i don’t do hair (just nails, part time), bc i thought that was what i wanted to do haha. i’m not working at the moment bc school has taken over my life!
got engaged on april 9, 2010. my fiance’s name is adam. he’s a big dork 🙂 and i attribute my love of science to him. i never had much of an interest in it before we met and now it’s my major! we’ve been together for almost 4 years, lived together for a year and a half, and we’re getting married on july 30, 2011. i enjoy the heck out of him 🙂 we have two cats named bitsa and badger, and are rescuing our first puppy after christmas.
i quit wedding planning around the beginning of this semester bc i kind of burnt myself out on it at a time where there wasn’t much i could really plan, and school got CRAZY. but now, as another part of my efforts to not be studying, i’ve gotten back into it, full swing! i wanted to get active on the boards bc i don’t have any engaged friends, and thought it would be nice to experience it along with the rest of you ladies! i love reading the blog posts, and have found the board threads really helpful.
other than that, i love doing crafty things when i have time for it. i also like to bake, and am hoping to start running after christmas in an effort to get healthier before the wedding. and just because being healthier is nice.
anyone else semi-new around here?? anyone just want to tell me about yourself so i can keep not studying?? 🙂

Right now you’re probably refreshing this post over and over to see if anyone else has posted right? That’s what I do! : )
What are your finals for?
I’m watching the Chargers game right now and wasting time on WB. I am a HS English teacher but I didn’t bring any work home this weekend so I literally can’t be productive and it’s kind of nice!

I’m not really new but I’m a lurker rather than a constant poster. I love the fact that you waited to start college. I made it 3 years and then freaked out and decided I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I took “a break”…. which was 5 years ago this month. I really want to go back, I’m still unsure though!

haha!! i went to read some other threads. i told myself i could peak in a bit 🙂
i already took my college math final last week. i have an educational psychology final online that’s due at midnight tonight, a zoology final tomorrow, and english composition for research writing final and general biology 2 final on tuesday.
yay for high school teachers! and double yay for giving yourself the weekend off! that’s the only thing i’m not excited for about teaching. for someone who clearly hates homework of any kind, i sure am signing up for a lifetime of it. looks the the chargers are winning! good luck 🙂

@HolyVowels: it’s never too late! this is actually my second attempt. i went to cosmetology school for a year right after i graduated hs, then i went to college for photography. i made it about halfway through my second semester and decided it wasn’t for me, and always said i would never go back.
i made the decision to teach about a year and a half ago, when i was quitting a really crummy job. there’s not a lot of room for advancement when you do nails haha. i picked teaching bc it was really interesting to me and seemed fulfilling, but it also fit in well with the family life i want to have. the schedule would allow me to be home as much as possible, and the same time my kids will be home (when i have them).
i will say, going back has been a million times easier than when i tried the first time. i feel a lot more motivated. i never in my life strived for good grades. i never even got one of those “my kid is on the honor roll” bumper stickers in elementary school haha. i think going back to school makes you want to do really well, bc you know what the alternative is.
i know you’ll figure it out one day! what did you go for/ what do you do now?

@Honey Pie: I went for Human Services/Social Work. After I took my break, I got a really good job in the financial world until the economy went to crap! I now work in a social work agency, but I don’t work with clients. I realized recently that I don’t think I can do the Social Work thing. So I’m back to square one with like 72 college credits.
My fiance is actually in grad school for secondary education/special education. He got his undergrad in English. I have so much respect for teachers and they definitely deserve to be paid more! 🙂
I got the bumper sticker the first quarter of Junior High, and my dad refused to put it on the car, because after I got it, it no longer applied… HAHA! I was not a devoted student in the least. I coasted through HS, did okay in Community College, and then when I went away to a four year school I was just there for the social aspect of it and my grades went down the toilet. I realized I was there for the wrong reasons, and I was paying for it myself… so my money was going down the toilet too!

Good luck with your finals. I’m having a very difficult time closing the computer and and actually studying for my finals. I’m in my first semester of a PhD, so I guess I should so they don’t kick me out 🙂 My mind is totally on weddings though, not immunology.

I’m in college as well (last year, YAY!) and finals SUCK. Fortunately, I don’t have any this semester–just one more presentation in psychology this week, and then I’m done. I’m an English major with writing and psychology minors, so I’m a busy gal. 😉 My mind is transitioning from weddings to other stuff right now (got married on Friday after an almost-two-year engagement) so it’s kind of fuzzy, haha.

I am totally in the same boat as you!! This upcoming week is finals week and I have 3, yes THREE, 10-12 page research papers due…meaning I’m spending even more time with my laptop…and more time procrastinating on wedding bee!! I’m a Senior, graduating in May and I’ve got senioritis BAD! You and I sound a lot alike…I love to bake too and just made muffins to get out of paper writing! Boyfriend and I live together, we bought a house this last summer and we have 1 rescued dog and 2 rescued kitties (named Alton and Morimoto after Food Network people, of course). We’re waiting until we both get out of school to take that next big step to engagemnt, mostly because at that point we will have the money to do so, but the waiting is SO hard! Good luck with your studying! 🙂
