That’s exactly what I do! I work in the emergency department of a children’s hospital and I see scary scary stuff… meningitis, pertussis, MRSA, sepsis, you name it. And absolutely NO ONE will be allowed to smoke around my baby, and I’m so paranoid that I don’t even want someone who’s a smoker holding him or touching him. Even if they wash their hands so many of those chemicals are in their clothing, etc. I know I sound completely paranoid but I’ve studied health too long to not be a little bit of a freak 🙂

I’m curious because this is one of my biggest questions.. .I definitely want ANYONE who touches my baby to wash their hands first. When my sister had her babies we always did.. it was just automatic. So.. when people start to touch your baby, how do you put a stop to it? And when friends/family come in how do you say WAIT wash your hands? I am not sure I’ll be able to make those words come out of my mouth LOL

I was partly lucky because my mother is in public health, so hand-washing in my immediate family is a no-brainer. For other people, when I’d see their hands reaching for her, I’d move her out of the way casually and say “Babies are so susceptible to germs, would you mind washing your hands/using the sanitizer?” (I said the first if in a home setting and the second if out in public where there wasn’t a sink/soap available). No one ever said “Oh, I mind!” Or were offended or anything. Most people know you must have clean hands when touching a baby and sometimes just forget.

I’m a SUPER germaphobe and when I have a baby I dont want people all over my baby except me and Fiance. Not even our parents…they all get sick alot and I wouldnt want that passing on to the baby.

I am a germphobe big time. I think I will only let family around the baby when it is very small and have them wash for 20 seconds first. I don’t think I would like strangers touching baby, but I don’t think people tend to do that, do they? It will likely be strapped to me in the ergo…

Ugh! I am so glad no one in my family is a smoker. My grandparents were chain smokers and I hated it growing up! I would not let a smoker near my baby. I even hate it when people are smoking near entrances, drives me crazy- like, you are already outside- why not walk a few more feet?!
