I actually bought a loose moissanite to show him. He agreed it was beautiful but he just didn’t like the idea of me having something that looked like a diamond but wasn’t. And I wanted something colorless, so we went with diamond.

@MrsTCB: My MIL’s original ering was an opal, so he’s never been confused about alternative gems for an engagement ring. He did offer to finance a diamond when we were first married (and broke) but I said no way. Had I known about moissanite back then we would have done that, definitely. When I told him I wanted a sapphire he actually thought it was pretty cool that I didn’t *have* to have a diamond of a certain carat size like many of his friend’s girlfriends.

I’ve tried to explain diamond vs. moissanite a few times but he just shrugs “I don’t get it. They look exactly the same to me.”

honestly he said wtf is moissanite lol, then after that he said no. he said that he didnt want me to have to settle for something that wasnt diamond, but after explaining to him what it was and why i wanted it he came around.

My FH is seriously anti-moissy. He wouldn’t have minded buying me a gemstone ring but didn’t want anything that he’d see as a “diamond substitute” (rightly or wrongly).

To be honest my Fi was just like ok if thats what you want then tuned me out when i tried to explain to him why… But he didnt even know about the price difference until we went to order it.

He loves the idea, especially since it’s cheaper. The set we’ve found on moissanitco is gorgeous and we both can’t wait to be able to order it. My original e-ring is a pearl with a tiny diamond accent, so I guess you can say neither of us have ever been particular to diamonds (I don’t want one for many reasons).

He asked what on earth it was, haha. I explained it, explained why I wanted it, and by the end of the conversation he was a total convert.

He was against the idea 100% .. it took months of convincing and educating

It took a few conversations, but once he realized I didn’t just prefer moissanite because it’s less expensive, he bought into the idea a lot more.  Fiance did a ton of research, which really convinced him (apparantly MoissaniteCo was amazing at answering all of his questions), and we both love my moissy ring now.

I never really said I wanted moissy, but I just told him about it.  He said what is that??  Then he bought me a diamond.  He said he considered moissy for a split second, but didnt think that I would be happy with one.

I told him we could look at it as an option if diamonds ended up being too crazy expensive for our budget. His response was, “Ehhh. I don’t know about that.” He only seemed thrilled with the idea that it was cheaper. But even then he didn’t like the idea in general.

I just brought it up with him. I told him I had been doing research and there is this awesome alternative to diamond called moissanite. I told him all the benefits. He seemed skeptical at first, but he was at least open to the idea pretty much instantly.

Later he told me that he had researched diamond alternatives himself, but the only resources he found about moissanite all said that it was terrible, so he had given up on it. That is why I try and make an effort to put the truth of the beauty of moissy out there on the internets. 🙂

I didn’t want one, but I thought that due to cost, I would at least bring it up and then we could discuss upgrading to a diamond later. He wasn’t up for it, and wanted to go diamond. Since ultimately that’s what I wanted anyway, I didn’t argue at all.

We had been saving for a diamond forEVER and were both feeling extremely frustrated about the outrageous cost. We felt like we couldn’t do anything fun or buy anything else because we were saving for that stupid diamond!! I had always said I would be happy with any type of ring (or even no ring at all!) but he had insisted. One day I felt like I had enough wasting away waiting for that diamond, so I googled “Diamond Alternatives” and found Moissy!! Then after researching further and seeing tons of beautiful pictures on the Bee I was completely converted. Finally something that was beautiful, sparkly, clear, and AFFORDABLE!! Who would have thought! 🙂 I told my SO right away and he did his own research and also got really excited about it. As soon as he saw that it was almost as hard & durable as a diamond he was sold. Less than a week later we ordered our very own Moissy and now its being set into the ring of my dreams.. What happens next is up to him, but I do know that the ring will be finished on the 11th!
