Ok, so I’m a little new to this game. We are actually going to TRY. Before, we weren’t trying NOT TO, you know, but this month we are ready… So I have been doing lots of reading, about CM, etc and was wondering if you guys could give me the cliffnotes version of when you do it with ovulation, Before? During? After?
Also, do you all check your Basal Temp? I’m not sure if I want to do that quite yet, but does it really help?
Oh yeah, and how do the OPK’s work?
Anyway, just looking for tips from people been through it/going through it!

Sperm lives for 5 days max, the egg for about 1. So have sex awhile before and right after ovulation. We have tried different things each month, but basically every other day during the week or so before I think I ovulate and try to do 2 days in a row when I notice the Egg-white CM.
The hardest part for me is figuring out exactly when you’re ovulating. Charting and OPKs and fertility monitors can help. You pretty much ovulate 14 days before your next period, but the time in the first half of the cycle is variable. We messed up our first couple of months just because we were trying at the wrong time.
I don’t chart or use OPKs but i just started using the ClearBlue Easy Fertility monitor this month. It checks Estrogen and LH and gives you low, high, and peak fertility days (Estrogen starts to rise about a week before OV and LH rises immediately before OV).
That’s my cliffnotes version…I’ve been reading a ton! You might want to look back a few pages in the baby threads because a lot of good suggestions have already been given.

Ok, our baby dancing usually starts on CD10 and we do that every other day until a positive opk and then we aim for every day for the next 3 days following the positive opk. I only do OPK now and due to my medication I start them on CD 9. I test every day around the same time, 1 pm and when you get a positive it means you are having a LH surge and should ovulate in the next 12-36 hrs. Everyones cycle is different as well as their luteal phase, meaning some ovulate 14 days before their next period and some don’t. It is not a gaurantee. I don’t temp, my OB actually doesn’t feel it is that correct especially for me bc I work night shift and don’t have a regular sleeping schedule. And not to be too graphic or gross, but I stopped checking CM bc of sperm leakage after sex. It gets too confusing and rather gross for me. Just try to have fun with the process!

Do know know how long your cycles are? If you go on babyCenter.com, they have this thing where you put in how long your cycles are and they can send you text messages about 5 days before you should be ovulating. (They call it ‘booty calls.’ LOL ) It’s a reminder so you know when the best times are to conceive. Taking your basal temperature will be the best way to find out when you are ovulating but using babycenter can give you a rough estimate. Plus, they have some good info on TTC. I checked out the site earlier this week. I haven’t signed up for the ‘booty calls’ yet, since I have a little while until I TTC.
