The designer’s site says it’s made of “demir stretch satin” whatever that is lol.  I wouldn’t worry about it.  I’m an Adorae bride, too, and I thought it felt nice.  All that matters is whether you like it!

1. I have no idea the answer to your question.

2. Polyester was originally invented to be synthetic silk.

3. Polyester can be made in many different ways (as can silk). Polyester is actually kind of a generic term for a long chain man made fiber with ester links. There are tons of kinds from the plastic bottle kind to the silky smooth clothing kind.

4. Polyester HAS come a long way.

and… I am super curious what it’s made of!

Erm. I did a little fact checking– I think one kind of polyester was trying to be silk, but that’s not the original purpose. I think. I can’t find all the facts.

Nylon was invented in WWI because silk go too expensive, but I could have sworn someone told me about an association with polyester and synthetic silk.

Facts, anyone?

I’m also an Adorae bride!  Yah!  I have tried on the dress a dozen times and it doesn’t seem like Polyester to me ๐Ÿ™‚  Just feels like smooth satin……..Either way the dress is BEAUTIFUL and it’s definately not cheap.  Smile

Polyester is a fiber, that like silk, can be made into a variety of weaves, such as satin, taffeta, organza, etc.

To find out the materials, you’ll need to look at the inside tag of your dress. There is a strong likelihood that the dress is polyester, or a blend, because 100% silk wedding dresses are very expensive. I wouldn’t call it cheap though.

The dress is Satin, definitely not polyester. The Adorae fabric is so luxurious and that is why I am so drawn to the dress.

I actually just read about this in one of my bridal bargain books. I don’t know about your dress specifically but this is what it says:

“…most makers know that the words “polyester” or “Acetate” don’t get brides hearts racing. So, instead they come up with bogus names like Italian satin, Regal satin, or (our favorite) Silky Satin.”

It basically says that it still feels great it is simply just a way for the designers to keep the cost down whih in turn keeps the cost down for us brides.

Satin is a weave of fibers made with silk, nylon or polyester.  Maggie Sottero uses a polyester blended satin.  Yes, it is “cheaper” meaning less expensive than a silk satin which you’ll find in many of the more expensive gowns, but to the untrained eye no one will be able to tell the difference.  I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

By the way…I tried on the Adorea and it was absolutely gorgeous!  I didn’t end up purchasing it, but it was definitely a runner up!  You shouldn’t worry about your dress purchase!
