Depends on what you’re looking for really.  Do you like history?  If so, Charleston for sure.  Want some place super relaxing, but not really much to do?  Edisto or Hilton Head.  If you want more touristy stuff, Myrtle Beach.

For more stuff to do I would suggest Charleston. It’s near the beach but has all the city stuff too. For relaxation and beach Hilton Head and Kiawah Island are great. Kiawah is near Charleston so that could be a great day trip. And Hilton Head is near Savannah.

This resort is supposed to be fantastic

Also Palmetto Bluff

I suggest Charleston. It’s such a beautiful, historic city with lots to see and do. I love visiting and even got engaged there!

@Bichon Frise: Aww 🙂 You got engaged in Charleston? I love that! I live in North Charleston, and I got engaged on Folly Beach.

Depending on when you’re coming (May? June? July? August? September?) there are festivals going on in additional to the regular vibe of the city.

May brings Spoleto (I think it’s May, it might be June) and that’s a really excellent way to be out and about and see local art.  They have wine and cheese with gallery art walks.  September brings our second round of Restaurant Week for the year and that’s where you can get great deals on many of the restaurants in town.

I would definitely say Charleston over Hilton Head.  There is not a TON to do in Charelston IMO but compared to Hilton Head where you will be the youngest people in the city save for children there is even less to do and very little waterfront dining.

However, Kiawah is beautiful.
