Hi Bee’s! I just got engaged and am wanting to have a destination wedding in the Ft.Lauderdale/Miami area. My original plan was cruise wedding but that can’t happen but I would still like to do a destination wedding. Is anyone able to offer suggestions for a small venue? I don’t anticipate more than 30 people.

There are literally thousands of venues. What kind of venue do you want? What time of year? What is your budget?

We are liking the idea of December next year… A chance to get away from the cold. Something nice where we can eat and do a little dancing. We would like to be under 7500. Waterviews would be a plus. I have been looking and I see tons of places just not tons of places for small parties.

SimplySi : honestly I would go to Key West instead for a small south Florida wedding!

December will be super tough because you are competing against holiday parties (and Art Basel) and will probably have to pay a premium. I would do it in mid November or mid January.
I would try the Betsy Hotel. They do a great small wedding.
I’ll think of others just give me some time.
p.s. Key West is tough and expensive for guests to get to.

I second the Betsy Hotel! There’s also the Confidante if you’re into hotels. Another intimate venue we considered was Stardust Studio. It’s not near the water, but the small backyard weddings there are stunning.

We also just got engaged and we are doing a destination ish small wedding in the Carolinas – we are planning to rent a yacht which we are super excited for! Another option to look into as it sounds like you have a similar vision to ours!

Thanks for the ideas looked into the Betsy Hotel it’s beautiful! But sadly it will put me over budget! Food for 30 starts at 6K and I haven’t added tax, ceremony, officiant, music so I will have to pass this early into the planning. I looked at the Confidante as well and it’s a contender! I noticed they had a daytime option which I hadn’t considered but I am considering now. It would give my family and friends time to still have a beach day. I am have future in-law that has seasick issues so no yachts but maybe a cruise honeymoon 🤞

SimplySi : I’m sure there are options out there, just know that not only will you be up against all the holiday parties it’s also the start of prime season in South Florida – so that heightened cost will be passed along to your guests who have to pay to make travel arrangements. Is $6k your entire buget for venue+food/bar?

starfish0116 : I really don’t want to go over 7500 (venue/food/officiant/dj). I can be a little flexible if it’s a great location. However it’s only 30 people and we don’t really want to go over 250 a person that’s how we got to the $7500.

Just chiming in because I noticed you mentioned wanting a beach day… Florida in December is generally warmer than the rest of the country but it can still be cold. Like way too cold for the beach cold. You miiiight get lucky and have a warm enough day but it’s more likely to be too uncomfortable to even lay out. So keep that in mind if you’ve really got your heart set on something tropical feeling.

maybeee : thanks Maybee I was thinking waterview. We are Midwest people so December usually means snow for us so I am not opposed to an outdoor ceremony – reception definitely needs to be indoors.

I assume that your guests will have to travel to get to your wedding? Why don’t you just do an all inclusive resort wedding? They often have free wedding packages or cheap options. You also get your beach/waterfront views, and it will likely be warmer than Florida at that time of year. We have been to Florida in December and it was not beach weather. It was sweater or even jacket weather on certain days.
