So the honeymoon thread got me thinking- does anyone else make a habit of collecting the same type of souvenir every time you go someplace? I mean, if a place has some local specialty, I’ll get that too, but every place I visit I make sure to get a coffee mug. I love having an eclectic collection of mugs. I’ll get them from cities, other people’s universities, businesses, whatever. It makes me happy to be reminded of different trips I took when I have my morning coffee.
I also collect postcards and ask my friends to bring me post cards. Those are all over the fridge. I have a very travel-centric kitchen I guess.
So anyway- do you have a souvenir you collect regularly?

I don’t have anything that I collect specifically.

We do magnets. I love it because each time I’m at the fridge, one magnet can take me back to some great memories!

that’s cute stephinpa! I hang on to peoples save the date magnets long after their weddings are over for the memories 🙂

We collect Christmas ornaments. Every time we go somewhere new, we buy a Christmas ornament from the place to remind us of the trip. 🙂

@Mrs. Spring – that’s a great idea too! I like it.

Ditto the christmas ornaments. And i try to find art i love when I’m traveling.
I like souvenirs to remind me of travels, but I don’t like “stuff” cluttering up my house, so I aim for functional things–things I’d buy because I love them, not just because they are from x place.

Yeah, I never thought I had a problem but my Darling Husband pointed out that I like to buy those little glass handmade jewelry boxes. I bought a little one when I went to Tijuana a few years ago and when we went to Cancun last week, I couldn’t resist to buy another one. Darling Husband said to me, “you need another one?” LOL That and I like buying pictures. The ones where they take a picture of you randomly at a store or restaurant or amusement parks. I’m a softie when it comes to those. If I like it, I will get it. I guess I like it as a souvenir.. something to remember that moment by. Depending on the place, it can cost between $15 to $30 and especially at an amusement park where they offer you 5 of those things… I’m in trouble. hehe

I always get hot sauce from anywhere I visit! I try to get one that says the city or state on the bottle. We love spicy stuff, so that’s been our thing for awhile. I can’t wait to have more space on my kitchen walls, I’d love to have a shelf for them.

I collect those $0.51 deals where you pay $0.50 and put in a penny and the machine rolls out your penny into a design that you select and you have to hand crank the machine to make our own penny. If it’s an overseas trip, I just collect random things that I think will make awesome decor in my house! Lately, it’s been a plaque of the location’s icon (e.g. leaning tower of pisa, sydney opera house, great wall of china, etc.)

It’s super cheesy but we always get a shot glass! But we go for nice looking shot glasses. We have a pretty decent collection now because other ppl get it for us as well.
But the idea is one day when Fiance has his man cave/basement bar we’ll create a tiny shelf that goes around the whole perimeter and line it with shot glasses.
