Background; We bought a caravan in january so that one of our kids can live in it while we renovate and sell our house. They were having to share a room with their Younger sibling, of which there was a huge age gap and fights were happening daily. It was either do this or lock ourselves in bathroom weeping whenever the kids were awake. Ew, awful times! We chose our mental health over the some of the renos and sprung for the caravan.
So that worked out well for summer but winter has come, the siblings have reconciled and apparently The caravan has lost its appeal to the kids, brilliant! We are hurting for cash a bit at the moment so let’s sell it and use the money to continue doing up the house. You know, High pressure hose the parental tears from the bathroom cabinets. Install the kitchen after nine months of cooking on the camp stove and doing the dishes in the laundry. Etc..
We advertised it online and people were interested. Some buyers contacted saying they def wanted it but they were having problems getting all the cash together (it was on Sunday). No worries, I replied. Come see it, and if you are keen give us a deposit, I’ll give you a receipt and you can collect it in the week. So they came, loved it (it is super cute) I even dropped the price by $400 since I’m frikking nice and they looked sweet, they gave us $1000 cash as a deposit and we organised them to come give us the rest of the money and get it wed night as they really wanted to go away on the weekend.
Wed arvo I get this text. ” Hi its mat the guy that droped the deposit off to u on the weekend. My boy has is realy sick atm and we have decided not to buy the caravan as we are unable to go away is there any possiblity that u are able to deposit the money bak into my account if i give u the details? Sorry for the inconvence”.
I was pretty ticked off.. Of course we will give the money back, because we are not a$$holes. AND Im sorry your child is unwell and you can’t go away this weekend but seriously, this is not acceptable behaviour! What do you think a deposit is?! Maybe it’s the wording but it just seemed totally lahdeedah we’ve changed our minds and it’s completely cool give us our money back
So we could have sold it to other people that had contacted us but they now bought something else. It could had it sold by now but they messed us around, contacted us only by text and then expect us to transfer the money, thus providing them with our account details and full names?
With three kids, its school and dance fee time therefore we have no money in the bank anyway, so we texted back politely but formally that it had put us out but they could pick up the money from us at their leisure. Then we tried to call to make sure everything was ok. If it had been an emergency with their son we would have taken the money to them.
But no answer for two days. Then we get “Hi mate is the any chance that we can come past and get the deposit off u tonite if possible? Cheers” It’s like they lent us a lawn mower!
Is it just us that thinks this is wrong? My mum would have spanked me if I did this. Has anyone else experienced online or face to face buyer cluelesness? We haven’t been rude to these guys or anything because that will not change anything or help, so having this little vent helps me much! Maybe I’M the clueless one and this is normal behaviour. I think all it would have taken was them to call and explain but maybe my knickers are in a twist about nothing! Thanks for reading,
