I really try to be open minded and not just other but wow. How do adult women tolerate being treated like a small child or particularly stupid dog?
Here is a quote from the article “Christian Domestic Discipline, or CDD as its adherents call it, is a movement that seeks to carry out God’s will. Which specific plan of God’s? Oh, you know, just that all women obey their husbands fastidiously — a dynamic that CDD thinks is best maintained through doling out out corporal punishments. Its few thousand practitioners, however, claim that it’s not domestic abuse.”
So does anyone actually do this? Would anyone consider letting their husband spank them, put them on time out etc?

@Mrs.babycat: I grew up in a very fundamentalist (they called it “evangelical”) church where I understand some families did this. They also believed in literally using a rod to discipline a child. I can direct you to some pretty terrifying personal accounts from other people who have left groups like this.

Mr. Michael Pearl is the author of a book that is very popular in my old community regarding biblical discipline. You can read more about “To Train Up A Child” on his site. His wifes books are terrifying in their views on submission, so I wouldnt be the least bit surprised if they believed in spanking adults.

I love the delicious irony in that statement. On another note, I’ve honestly never heard of CDD, but then again, I grew up in the Northeast where fundamentalism is very rare. It actually amazes me how hard-core religious the middle of the country is – it’s really fascinating to someone who grew up amongst lapsed Catholics, atheists, and agnostics.

First thing I saw. Dying of curiousity now.

@MrsNewDay: People that have never been around fundamentalism cannot hardly believe it even exists in this country. I’ve been working for a few months on compiling stories of people I know that grew up in these communities and have since left. Their stories are heartbreaking and terrifying and it’s sad so many of us have upbringings like this in common.

I am a Christian wife who believes in the principles of biblical submission (wife submits to husband, and husband seeks Christ in decision making and has the best intentions for his wife/family). I have NEVER heard of this spanking for Jesus thing. Sounds absolutely crazy to me.

Ugh! That’s nothing to do with true, real Christianity. Can anyone really imagine Jesus hitting a child??!?

It sounds a bit like the quiverful movement as well, with that movement not only demanding that wives at all times obey their husband or risk punishment, but with the added fun of pumping out as many kids for Christ’s army as is humanly possible. There are so many stories about these crazy-town Christian subcultures. I came across this great website run by women who have left the quiverful movement: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/nolongerquivering/

I was watching some show the other week about male dominated Christian relationships. This woman was preaching that ‘woman’ means ‘womb – man’ meaning we are here to service men by giving them children and nothing else, therefore we have to do what they want us and never question them. I was pretty horrified that women are still treated like baby machines and not much else. It didn’t make any mention of the domestic discipline, though that is pretty horrifying.

LOL I like when Darling Husband spanks me but not under these terms! 😛
