maudemaisha :  I don’t have pics but I absolutely think spanx/ shapeware are totally worth it. Just make sure you can still breathe, eat, sit, and get up!

What does your dress look like?  My dress was an empire waist so the only undergarments that made a difference was a good bustier.  I personally find Spanx uncomfortable so this worked out great for me.

I personally hate Spanx…the legs roll up, the waist rolls down and I always feel like I have a huge donut around my middle and wedged between my legs…on the recommendation of this board, I found Rago shapewear…SOOOO much better!!! Stays put, does a great job sucking in and actually looks pretty!!

I really dislike Spanx. I actually wore a dress to work today that had built-in shapewear like Spanx, and I didn’t like that either! I feel like it smooths me out, but it doesn’t actually reduce anything. Actually I feel like my stomach is more prominent when I’m wearing them, and it smooths out my hips so I don’t look as hourglassy.

I bought a Rago to wear with my dress, but my dress is so structured it doesn’t make a difference so I’m not going to bother. But I like it much better than Spanx. I also like actual corsets, although I wouldn’t wear one with a wedding dress because they alter the silhouette so much and conflict with the structure of the dress itself. I just prefer boning and panels rather than one stretchy tube (Spanx).

Yes, a million times yes. I don’t have before and after pictures because I wouldn’t take a picture without them. No, they are not physically comfortable. Better than looking lumpy. The high-waisted ones give me a tiny waist and smooth the bulges without negatively changing my shape.

I swear by these. They have a wide waist band that smooths the lower pooch without causing pinching or muffin top like spanx does to me. I wore these with my wedding dress and it was the perfect amount of smoothing for the lower belly. I was never uncomfortable at all. I actually wear them under other dresses too. Even after wearing them all day they don’t bother me like spanx or other shape wear does.

ETA: I thought I was responding to another poster who asked about spanx for her lower stomach. Regardless I still stand by these for shape wear.

I ordered a pair of Rago long legged shaping panties today. I’ve seen better reviews for them than Spanx, and they don’t sound like they roll up or down as much… I wouldn’t wear any formal or semi formal dress without shapewear. It smooths everything out so nicely, and also helps with thigh chafing under a hot long dress.
