Mine is an H SI1 and she sparkles like nobodies business!! I think the cut is more important. Mine is only very good, not excellent, but it still sparkles and throws light. I love it!

Like the PP, my round diamond is H color and SI1 clarity. I’m not sure about the cut but it sparkles like crazy! Diamonds behave so differently even if they have the same specs. Best advice I can give you is to pick the diamond you think looks best to you, regardless of what the paper tells you!

To answer your questions, yes inclusions can influence the sparkle and no (to me) there isn’t much difference in a G and H (if they are graded by the same company).

I think that it depends on the inclusion, whether or not it will have an effect on the sparkle factor.  I looked at an ideal cut hearts and arrows SI1, compared to an ideal cut, VVS1 and the SI1 sparked just as much.  It also depends on where the inclusion is located in the stone.

I think you should just go look at them, if you don’t mind the SI1 and can’t see/notice the inclusion save the money and go with that one! 🙂

I agree with Pp’s I have a G SI1 H&A round diamond and I think the cut is what makes it sparkle like crazy! View them in person, in different light. choose the one that looks the best…you’ll know:)

cut makes a HUGE difference.  If the diamond is cut poorly the sparkle won’t be there.

My ring is a 0.5ct princess cut, colour I, VVS2, very good polish and good symmetry.  It’s super sparkley (not as much as a brillant – they have that name for a reason) but I love it!

You also have to remember when selecting a loose diamond that it will shine and “face” differently once it is set in the ring.  The setting also enhances or deters from the sparkle of the diamond.  My uncle was a jeweler, my brother spent years working in a jewelry store, so I have a bit of experience on this topic, but I’m not an expert.  There is not much of a difference between G and H, an H ring can sparkle more brilliantly than a G diamond if the inclusions are less noticeable and it is set better.  It really just has so many variables.  Your best bet is to talk to your jeweler.  They have taken classes and have years of experience so they would know best what your better bargain would be.  They are not always just there to make a sale, but they want you to trust them and come back for repeat business as well…if it is a good jeweler =)

@oangeo:  I agree with others when saying that cut is extremely important! I have an SI1 G Ideal Cut Sirius Star Diamond. The sparkle is out of this world!

I have F-G stones, SI clarity and I am plenty happy with the sparkle! 🙂 I really think it depends on your personal priorities and your reaction to the stones. For me it was all about getting my dream setting and size with a nice white colour rather than the clarity. For others it’s all about the clarity. Whatever floats your boat.
