@oangeo:  I think the color is pretty noticeable from a D to H even when you don’t have them side by side.  With that said, I don’t think anyone outside of the industry will look at a ring and be like “oh, that’s an H”.  It’s just noticebale that it’s not as bright and white as it can be.  You should also pay close attention to the size and color of the inclusions.  Most are black so they are more visible, but there are also some that just look like colorless clear bubbles which don’t affect the shine much at all.  FI opted to go for better color and cut, than clarity.  I have a D, SI1, excellent cut and it’s super sparkly!

@oangeo:  I think everyone has their preferences and the order of the C’s vary in importance for each person.  For me, color was #1 because it’s one of the first things I notice. Clarity was #2 only because I knew what it was, cut was #3 and carat #4.   In talking various jewelers, I learned that cut is actually the most important in a diamond’s sparkle but this is probably also up for debate depeding on who you talk to.

If color is super important to you like it was/is for me, you may find yourself slightly disappointed especially if you are able to tell the difference yourself.  If you can’t tell, who cares! 🙂  I will say that I was slightly disappointed with my SI1 stone at first especially since the jeweler had to point out EVERY SINGLE inclusion and “defect” to me under the microscope before sending it off to be set (for liability reasons).  That and most of my close friends had nothing below a VS2.  But now i could care less and I LOVE everything about my ring.  I can’t stop taking peeks at it and at the end of the day, these are just codes and letters. I feel silly for ever feeling that disappointment because it’s so bright and sparkly and I constantly get compliments on it.  If you love the way it looks and love that your Fiance invested time and money to find THE ring/stone then that’s all that matters!  Good luck!
