What is your job? I am a “Program Data Associate,” which means that I manage data (contact info and demographics) for all of the students who participate in my museum’s education programs.  It’s basically data entry, managing the database, and creating in-depth reports that others can use for grant proposals and status updates.  It also helps the museum see if it is fulfilling its mission in terms of the types of students it’s serving.  Creating the reports and helping to streamline the process of collecting data are the more interesting parts of the job.

Do you love it/hate it/whatever, it’s a job? Sometimes it’s incredibly boring and other times I enjoy it.  I guess I fall into the like enough but not love category.

How old are you/how long have you been in this position? I’m 26 and have been here for a little over a year.

What is your dream job?  Registrar at an art museum.  I’m currently at a science museum, which is cool, but art is my love. I miss working with objects and being involved in exhibitions.

@mepayne:  Keep pushing through! I’ve been there done that (agree that it’s ridiculous to work teacher hours for no pay). However, if you make it through and get a job it is SO worth the horrible hours!!

what is your job? Young Kinder/Pre-Kinder teacher

do you love it/hate it/whatever, it’s a job? I absoultely LOVE IT!!!

how old are you/how long have you been in this position? I’m 23 and have been in this positon for less than 1 month.

what is your dream job? This is pretty much it. Although I would maybe also like to get into early childhood special education.

anything else you’d like to share! receiving this job, in Michigan, which is about impossible to get a teaching job right after graduation, has been so amazing. It has made me realize that all my hard work through different student teachings has paid off in the long run.

what is your job?  wildlife biologist for a small environmental consulting company

do you love it/hate it/whatever, it’s a job? Mostly love it!  I spent 7 years in college/grad school, plus many years of un- or underpaid field biology work, to get a permanent, benefitted job in a very competitive field.  I get to be outside half the year, see amazing landscapes, work with wildlife, feel like I’m contributing some good to the world, etc.  My bosses and coworkers are all great.  I do get tired of all the travel (~4 days a week, ~20 weeks a year) and the fieldwork itself gets repetitive and boring at times.

how old are you/how long have you been in this position? I’m 31 and have been with this company for 1.5 years.

what is your dream job?  Being a wildlife biologist but with a little more research focus than what I currently do, which is a lot of monitoring and compliance associated with energy development.

anything else you’d like to share!  It’s SO NICE to have a real adult-sized paycheck and benefits!!!!!!  Finally!

@Ms_Purple:  You have MY dream job.   Started out as a bio major in college but physics was just not my friend.   I kick myself now…how I wish I had just gotten a tutor and stuck with the course instead of throwing up my hands in defeat.  Good for you!!

@OctBride-2012:  That is such a cool job ~ but  I love that your dream job is “retirement”.  I’m right there with you and it’s only Monday.

What is your job?  Director of Catastrophic Claims for a large national insurer

Do you love it/hate it/whatever…it’s a job?  For the most part, I love my job.  It’s fascinating, I am always learning something new and I have an amazing staff who are a pleasure to manage.  They never fail to make me look good!  We do see a lot of people trying to manipulate the system for benefits, and that gets really frustrating when you have super-ethical standards and are dedicated to doing the right thing.   However, I love my company and am very well compensated for what I do, which is a definite plus!

How old are you / how long have you been in this position?  I am 43.  I started out as a claims adjuster when I was 22 and have been building my resume ever since.

What is your dream job?   In my next life, I’d like to be a vascular surgeon or a geneticist…physics dunce hat be damned!

what is your job? Investigative Analyst for the Federal govt. I read for a living. I read all day, everyday. I basically go through investigations looking for any red flags, inconsistencies, issues that need to be followed up upon, etc etc. I make decisions on what needs to be obtained next  in order to make sure the case is as complete and accurate as possible. It can be really interesting and other times it can be really boring.

do you love it/hate it/whatever, it’s a job? I like it most of the time. I get paid really well, have great benefits and a lot of job security. I get to work from home 50% of the time, too. You definitely feel like your job matters and makes a difference. It only sucks when something like the recent naval yard shooting occurs and you find out that the shooter’s file came through our office (in this case, it did) ๐Ÿ™ Unfortunately there isn’t always a predisposition for someone that snaps like that. There aren’t always indicators.

how old are you/how long have you been in this position? I’m 27 and have been in this position for 3 years.

what is your dream job? Maybe something in art history. I loved studying ancient architecture in college. I had a really hard time picking a major though so honestly I don’t really have a dream job.

what is your job?  I work in a Special Education classroom  as a one to one Teacher aide for a boy with Autism. Then three afternoons a week at a afterschool program for speical needs children where i teach two art classes.

do you love it/hate it/whatever, it’s a job?  I have a love hate relationship with my jobs. I loev working with kids and making a differnce. But the pay is aweful for both although the benefits are good at the full time. I have my BA in Fine Arts, so I really wish I was using that more then just two one hour art classes a week.

how old are you/how long have you been in this position? I’m 27. I’ve been with the Teacher Aide job for four years in October. And the after school job for about a year.

what is your dream job? My dream job is to only work one job lol. I want to teach art to special needs students. The company I work tha after school program for has a program where I could teach art full time. I would love that. I think I would also be happy being a Stay-At-Home Mom running my soap business online.

What is your job? I am a graduate student in English and comparative literature. I also work part-time for a test preparation company.

Do you love it/hate it/whatever, it’s a job? I love both of my jobs! Right now, I am not teaching at my university (have the year off!) so instead I am doing looooots of reading. Usually I love it, but this year is a bit much with the reading, haha. And I adore teaching test prep, particularly when I get to do college admissions consulting, not just teaching tests.

How old are you/how long have you been in this position? I am 26. This is my 4th year as a grad student and my 7th year with the test prep company.

What is your dream job?  Being a tenured university professor! Uggghhh I can’t wait until that day. I feel confident that it will happen (maybe overconfident?! lol) but I truly believe if I keep working hard and doing my best, I will get tenure somewhere and get to teach what I love to bright young minds!

And with that… back to reading about theories of memory, lol.

@MissMiaMarch:  thanks! It was tough, I find my job now so much less stressful and intense than school was at the time.

As of tomorrow I can also add guest lecturer to my resume for the year as I’ll be giving a few lectures as part of a graduate course.

The topic ‘spicing up this monday morning – what is your job?’ is closed to new replies.
