I’ve lived in Minnesota all my life. I have 5 or 6 winter coats that are all different weights.  I also have number fall/spring jackets and a few summer jackets.  Everyone I know who lives here owns many jackets.  Our weather just changes so much!

RedHeadKel :  im in MN too, but im more of one of the minnesotans who only wear a coat when its really, really cold. they can be such a hassle to me and I am also terrible at remembering where mine is or remembering to take mine after I leave somewhere that I had it. I’m more of a sweatshirt for any type of cold weather person. I went to the vikings game yesterday and only wore long sleeves, and let me tell you it was a miserable walk to the stadium with that wind yesterday but comes with the territory. 😉

I have one coat but unfortunately wont be able to zip it up this winter as I am 24 weeks pregnant so I’ll be using lots of sweatshirts under my coat. This coat has two layers, a fleece that is removable and then the more hardcore outside shell. My husband makes and sells custom tshirts & clothing so he has many, many extra coats as his family’s construction company always orders a bunch from him every year and he gets to keep some leftovers.

    Yep I do haha.

1 – Ski jacket/parka. For crazy cold days. Its a dual jacket, with the inner layer and the outer shell.

1.5 – the inner shell. Sometimes I just wear this one if it’s cold and I dont care about looking cute. Its ugly, but does the trick.

2 – Red short wool jacket – Cute, great every day coat.

3 – Black long wool jacket – when its cold AF but you gotta dress up.

4 – Burberry style rainy trench – very lightweight, spring/fall jacket when its raining or light snow.

I have other jackets but I dont really wear them. If its fall/spring and I’m not leaving the car much, I’ll just wear a sweater. I literally just go from the house, to the car, to the office and back most days haha.

Im in the Uk, moving to MN in the new year! I know its going to be a big shock moving in the middle of winter so ive just bought a down jacket and an ‘arctic parka’ for MN (also bought snow boots and a ton of hats/scarfs/thermals). Before that I already had a few jackets, a light parka, a short peacoat and a longer thicker coat. It doesnt really go below -5 celcius in the UK so ive not needed heavy winter coats until now.

I have multiple jackets, but not because some days are warmer than others. I have a jacket I shovel in, a wool jacket for funerals or more formal occasions, 2 down jackets and a farm carhart for the dirty work.

Yea, I do something similar! I have a few of light jackets in different colors for not as cold days. I have a light down jacket for medium winter days (I also like to use this as a layer under a bigger jacket if it’s really cold out), a couple of other medium jackets in different styles (hoods, fuzzy inner layer, etc). I have two wool/wool blend peacoats, and my crazy big down puffy coat for the coldest days.

RedHeadKel :  I have several jackets but not necessarily because of different weights, just because different occasions require different jackets/coats. I do have two super-warm outdoorsy (and theoretically waterproof) jackets but that is because often one gets extremely dirty or so wet it won’t dry over night (I have a talent to time the dog’s walkies so that we get caught in ice rain with nowhere to hide, we often end up completely soaked). Other than that I just layer layer layer!

Yes, I’m in NJ where the winter is not as brutal as in MN. I have:

-heavy weight all weather northface with a hood  which is god for shoveling, skiing, or really cold days

-heavy weight pea coat for work or nice events when it’s pretty cold

-medium weight fleece northface for when it’s cold, but not bitter

-medium weight rain coat for bad weather days that aren’t super cold

-medium weight leather jacket which is great for fall

    -light weight rain jacket

-light weight jean jacket which is good for spring

I also have a bunch of sweatshirts and workout sweatshirts for hiking and outdoor activities when it’s not the dead of winter. I like having variety depending on the activity and the weather.

RedHeadKel :  Oh, definitely!! My favorite light down jacket is from Uniqlo (they have a vest version and a version with a hood as well): https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/women-ultra-light-down-jacket-173350.html?dwvar_173350_color=COL09#start=1&cgid=women-outerwear-and-blazers. Are there outlets near you? A few of my jackets are from the Columbia outlet! I would also check TJ Maxx– that’s where I found my big puffer coat!

Yes! Thick knee length coat. Thick jacket. Thinner hip/butt length jacket. Thin shell jackets. There are so many, but they all have their uses.
