@SpecialSundae:  Do I feel unsafe in my home? Yes, sometimes… when I am alone. I have to qualify this by saying that I am a really paranoid person and I’d feel unsafe if I lived in Fort Knox. This isn’t based on reality.. it’s based on my wild imagination.

I have never felt unsafe in my home….I live in a good neighborhood, but i try to be as alert and aware of goings on in the area as much as I can.

People get into trouble when they get complacent and don’t keep an eye on things.

I like to routinely check the crime report for my neighborhood on the city’s website.  I think in the past year, there’s only been three “incidents” all of them were thefts from vehicles.  It’s pretty boring around here, but I never ever ever leave doors unlocked.

I often feel unsafe, but that’s my own brain and generally being a stress head, I don’t live in a safe area, we;ve had our cars broken into and a drunk man wanderd into our house once or twice. But it’s not those things that cause the fear, it’s an irrational fear.

Only when i’m alone. I don’t live in a bad neighborhood but I know that bad things can happen no matter where you live, I do have some sketchy neighbors.

It’s more the thought of having to defend myself that scares me, being the person that has to deal with the bad guy. Not necessarily scared that the bad guy WILL come to my home but if he does, I have to protect myself and my dogs.

I voted I feel safe but I am scared of the dark so other than the “monster” in my basement I’m good 😉

I don’t feel unsafe or safe, per se, so it was hard for me to vote. I feel mostly safe – but I take precautions like keeping the doors locked and leaving a light on in case I come home after dark.  Keep in mind, I’m also the kind of person who gets scared of random noises and won’t go into dark basements by myself.

I felt more safe before my DH’s job brought about a situation with a criminal (whose records includes a murder charge and who the FBI is investigating for mob connections) who lives very close to us. I don’t worry much in my apartment, but there are certain streets in our neighborhood I won’t walk alone since this happened.

I feel safe from crime (i.e break-ins, murder, etc), but that doesn’t stop my fear of ghosts, monsters and zombie apocalypse.

I will sometimes lock the front door at night if my guy is gone, when I remember.  Otherwise, we don’t even lock the doors ever.  We live in a small town with low crime rates.  Not to mention, our house does not scream “I have expensive stuff in me!”, haha.

I feel safe in my present home.  However, that has not always been the case in previous residences.  I know that bad things can happen even in “good” neighborhoods and thus take precautions to keep myself and my family safe.

I have never felt unsafe in my home. I live in a very safe neighborhood, where I know all of my neighbors by name. In fact, we don’t even lock our doors except when we go on vacation.

Yes, which is one of the biggest reasons I’m excited to get out of there. I live in a pretty craptastic neighborhood on the first floor of a carriage house surrounded by a couple of shady parking lots on 2 sides. I get really creeped out a lot and don’t love that my landlord is lax about security.

I live in a very safe neighborhood, but I always feel a little uneasy when I’m home alone overnight. Darling Husband travels a lot so this happens frequently, but I do lock checks before bed, always make sure the bar is down in our sliding door, and I lock the bedroom door at night.

My 9mm and pump-action shotgun sometimes help me feel better as well, but I’d prefer to never have to use them.
