Yesterday you lovely Bees helped me decide that we will definitely have soup as our starter- now I just need to pick which one!
We are having our wedding in the English countryside and will have a traditional roast dinner for our main (roast chicken breast, sage, onion & apricot stuffing, potatoes and seasonal veg) and for desert we are having apple and cinnamon pie with custard. A very british dinner!
So which soup should I pick?

I’m not mad for soup so I asked my Darling Husband to vote instead and he picked leek and potato. He also said that he liked tomato but not basil, if that’s any use to you.

My daughter is having leek and potato. At the tast testing they said it was delicious. I would guess that it’s more universally appealing. I’m not a fan of tomato soup and although I love french onion, I’d stay away from lots of onions or garlic, etc., at a group function.

Definitely leek and potato. I’m a little biased because I hate French Onion soup (and it was the least popular soup when I worked in a restaurant so apparently other people don’t like it, either lol).
I can also see Tomato Basil getting spilled all over your dress, god forbid, and staining it. It’s also pretty strong-tasting and I know a lot of people who don’t like tomato or basil.
Leek and potato is delicious, relatively mild-tasting, and easier to clean off a white dress =)

Ahh see I thought that leek & potato might be a bit too heavy given the main also consists of veg. Hmmmm… I think I was personly leaning towards the tomato. My sister had french onion and I remember everyone saying how amazing it was… Eeeek! Its too difficult to decide!

Since you are serving potato with the entree, I would avoid a potato soup starter. I voted for tomato basil.
