Hi bees!
First off- NO, I am not arguing and/or asking about the superiority of buttoned dresses to corseted ones or to zippered ones.
What I am wondering is- what do they look like on? When comparing each one- what are the pros & cons of each? What does one do that another one doesn’t? I never seriously considered buttons vs. zipper vs. corset before, so now I’m interested!
Post pictures please & state what kind of dress you have!
Thanks bees! 😀

All the button dresses I tried on zipped and the buttons were decorative. I was adament on a button dress an changing them to crystal buttons all the way down the back to the train. My dress has a side zip with buttons, but I think I might leave them. I think people like the look of corsests and the fact that it keeps you in well, and creates a shape. But zipper dresses with the right seems do the same thing. It’s all about preference really.

@MASPA: I’ve only seen button dresses with zippers too. I was completely confused after the corset post where bees were talking about zippered dresses with buttons being ‘obvious’. I want to know what a buttoned dress looks like! Come to think of it, I don’t remember seeing a corseted dress either.

@MASPA: pretty! I’m not sure what the obvious comment was about either. That’s why I started this thread, I want to see the different button styles to see what I might like/not like.

Decorative buttons are sewn on adjacent to a zipper and many still have the slight gap where you can tell it is only a decoration. When a dress is totally using covered buttons and no zipper, there are loops that go over and around the button closing the dress. You need a crochet hook to actually button them since the loops are tiny.
http://www.leanna.com/Bustle/Bustles.shtml this is the closest picture I can find where it shows the buttons only as decorative…first set of the bustle pics.

My dress had decorative buttons- it zippered up and the bottons covered/hid the zipper. Not sure of the pros/cons, but here’s a picture of the back of my dress for reference.

@ItWasntMe: I see. So it’s just how well the buttons are placed? If they are sewn on beside the zipper or over/covering the zipper?

My 1st wedding dress had a zipper and buttons and when it was off you could tell there was a zipper underneath but when it was on you couldn’t.

My mom just got married a few years ago and her dress was all buttons. It looked STUNNING but was a bit of a pain to get on. If you get one, make sure you bring a crotchet hook to fasten them. Like I said, I think it is really elegant.
My dress has a zipper and a few decorative buttons at the top, but they don’t go all the way down. I definitely wasn’t opposed to those, mine just didn’t happen to have it.

i wish i had pix from my ’07 wedding to DH1 on this machine…i made my dress and wasn’t confident that i could make a zipper closure look good, so i bought premade elastic button loop tape and satin covered buttons and did a button closure instead. the loops were an inch apart. it looked very nice.

I’m pretty sure that my dress has a zipper and buttons with loops that must be put on with the crochet hook.
