I know because I deal with the insurance and my agent wanted both the purchase price and the appraised price to recommend an amount for the line item. I promptly forgot what those numbers were, but could probably get at least one digit correct.

I know what it cost, since we bought/shopped for it together.
I have never been asked what it cost, and if someone asked I would just say “A lot.”

Well my man knows nothing about jewelry, the 4 C’s, how to get a good deal, nor what style I wanted. so he let me pick out exactly what I wanted and it was much lower than his budget he gave me. I am a very frugal person so I had to know he didn’t overspend and get ripped off 🙂

@MakingHerWait: I tried to talk to my boyfriend about how much he was going to spend because Im worried he’ll get something I feel is too expensive without looking around for the best deal. He basically told me he has no intentiom of letting me know EVER how much it costs nd for me to stop worrying about it. So thats what I’m gonna try to do. Lol

I found the receipt on accident in the safe lol. People haven’t directly asked me but kind of hinted they’d like to know.
Ps- paying cash for a ring is awesome! But if you have a good rewards credit card, I’d suggest putting it on that and paying off immediately. With a $2000 ring you could get $40 or more back. Or ask the jeweler for a cash discount! You should be able to get 10% or more off.

I know what mine cost originally because my engagement ring is a family heirloom; it was gifted to my Fiance to propose to me with because I loved that ring style and it has a personal family meaning.
I have no idea what its current worth would be. If my husband had bought a ring, I wouldn’t have expected to know what it cost (although I’d probably have a ballpark figure for insurance purposes!)

I know because I went ring shopping with my DH. Also, the place we bought it from doesn’t over-inflate their appraisal. The paperwork they gave us to present to the insurance company is the exact price paid for the ring. Because I had a say in my ring, and I handle our finances and insurance premiums, I knew how much the ring cost.

We had my ring appraised so that we could get it insured, so I know the appraisal value. The diamond in my ring is a family heirloom, so I know my Fiance didn’t pay the price on the appraisal. He did end up telling me indirectly when he was talking about it, but I wasn’t planning to ask.

I was there when I showed it to him, he ordered it a week later and told me, and I have all the receipts and certificates, so I know exactly what it cost.

I picked it out, so yes I know 🙂

I know because my curiosity got the best of me and I looked through the stuff from the jeweler that we keep in our files. LOL
If I had not have looked I would have no idea what it was worth, I don’t know anything about these things.

Yep, I know. He proposed with the ring, then gave me the box with the receipt and said if you don’t like it you can return it and pick out something you like better!

@MakingHerWait: I know how much my ring cost because we had combined finances before we got engaged. If we hadn’t had combined finances, I would never have asked him what my ring cost. I suppose it might be natural to wonder, but I never would have asked.
I don’t think there’s a reason why your gf (FI) has to know how much her ring cost. Even if she knows the specs on the ring- the prices very greatly, even for GIA certs and the like.
If you don’t ever want her to find out- make sure you take care of appraisal and insurance on your own I guess- so she doesn’t have to.
That’s one reason that I may have eventually found out if I didn’t know in the first place- I do a lot of handling of paperwork, bills for us. We share everything though- so it’s not a big deal for us. And FYI- my ring was very inexpensive, and it doesn’t bother me a bit. I love my ring and wouldn’t trade it for anything (I helped pick it out!) 🙂

when i took mine to the shop to have it resized the sales woman gave me a confirmation page that had the purchase date and the purchase price on it!!!! i didn’t really want to know but i’m sure that sooner or later i would have found out.

I don’t know and I’m really glad I don’t. Obviously, I can guess based off the specs that I know. That doesn’t mean I didn’t pick my ring. My ring was custom made based off multiple ring shopping trips and pictures I saw online and what I wanted. I was very specific and got exactly what I wanted – as for the setting. I didn’t specify a type of center stone except for round and I told him the order of importance of Cs for me (cut, color, carat, clarity – in that order), but he chose the size (which is where the bulk of the price for a stone comes from).
