I was going to tell you to hit it with some gold to take out the super ash that turns blondes blue/purple. Then I saw the photo and realized that’s what you were going for. Love it! It’s funky and fun without being in your face. If you did that yourself, you are way talented! And should consider going to school for hair.

I’m actually over 40, but still like to have fun with my hair. My boyfriend is pretty conservative but he absolutely loves it. I feel like it’s very “me”

rubyrane:  what brand / color did you use? I’m always on the lookout for a good lavendar dye. the kind I get from sally’s is terrible.

rubyrane:  rats. I used that exact brand/color (over bleached white hair) and it looked really good at first, but after a week it faded to a dull, kind of greenish hue on me.

typically I use Goldwell Elumen [email protected], which lasts a crazy long time. but they only sell bold colors and unfortunately, diluting it makes it go pink.  if I dye it the full dark purple and wait a month, it fades to a beautiful lavender that lasts literally months. too bad I have to go through the waiting period first!  I suppose if I want the pale violet right away, I’ll have to mix it with blue and then dilute. I just hate experimenting with that because it’s such an expensive dye.

rubyrane:  I wash it only every other day, but the thing that really got to me about the Ion was the greenish hue it left. it was so hard to get out. I finally had to lightly re-bleach the affected area and then went over it with the diluted Elumen [email protected]. that helped. I’d rather have pinkish streaks than green.

this stuff is not the end of the world for me though — I usually only dye random streaks here and there. so if I make a mistake, it’s not all that noticeable anyway!
