@Mrs Grape:  I’m a communications specialist (not really where I wanted to end up but was about the only job I got straight out of undergrad) I have a degree in PR and I can tell you that having a blog will help you immensely.

You can put the link on your resume, you cant put writing samples in your resume

I feel like I may have thrown off the poll a little because I’m still in grad school, but I make a little more than $20k plus they pay for tuition.  I also do know that one of our new professors  (who’s 29) is making $80k for 9 months of work (in case you are not familiar with how it works in academe, professors are only paid for the school year, but many win enough research projects to pay themselves quite a bit more than their normal monthly salary during the summer by doing some consulting work. I can’t speak to her research salary (although I know she hasn’t won many grants so it can’t be too much).  Regardless I think $80k a year is still a fantastic salary.

I earn in British pounds but converted back to US$ I make just under $80,000 not including bonuses in the financial sector. But London is expensive so it’s not really all that amazing. I’m also totally underpaid and have just asked for a raise 🙂

Out of college, I found a great contract position with a pharmaceutical company and was making $57k.  When my contract ended, I accepted a job at a public state hospital, thus making me a state employee.  I have a college degree, and have almost completed a master’s degree.  I coordinate staff development opportunities for a huge department within the hospital, as well as facilitate, organize, and execute the new hire orientation program for new people joining our department.  I make just shy of $34k.  So depressing.  I guess the “trade off” is that we accrue a ridiculous amoutn of paid time off every pay period, so in a calendar year we can accrue up to ~7 weeks of paid time off.  Doesn’t always make up for the shitty salary, VERY few ‘closed’ holidays, etc.

@andreatote:  My goal in life is to be a CRNA! I’m working on getting hired into some sort of critical care unit here in Boston but that likely won’t happen with the job market for RN’s up here….how do you like being a CRNA?

I’m a pediatric RN and make about $65k my first year working…as stated above, I’d like to be a CRNA.
